I thought I would get this thread going. Here is some information to ponder:

A buddy of mine sent me this article a couple of years ago that pretty much set everything in motion:

Let me first start off saying that, when I started playing around with the idea of doing this, I really didn't have much faith that it was going to work. The build cost was pretty low, $70 for the electric power steering from Upull & Pay, $65 for the controller , and probably another $100 for misc. trial and error parts. Here are some pics of my set up. If I were to do it again there are things that I would change, but this is what my limited fab skills came up with. Also, I had two of everything, steering column and pedal assembly, in case it all didn't work out and I would have to put it back to stock.

I saw 1 in person installed on a 40 series 2 weeks ago. It was amazing how it worked. He still had some clean up to do.

The electric power steering motor, ecu, and the female splines on both ends of the motor.
 
Have you had a chance to drive with it? Curious about feel and power. Nice job!

Also interested to see how this will hold up. Reading the article this popped out at me:
"Due to higher rack loads, trucks like the new Chevy Silverado and Ford Mustang uses direct rack drive electric steering – ball screw driven by electric motor. Therefore, you can not put a small column electric in a big Galaxy."
I never knew a mustang was a truck but always thought the older ones drove like trucks, so it makes sense:)

Napster, I'm trying to resolve some caster issues at the moment, -2 degrees. That has made steering very easy, so much so that I've had to dial the setting on the unit all the way down. Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, I'll have my new suspension installed and the correct caster. I have a little more confidence in this set up due to others installing these systems in their 40's. There is a thread in the 40 tech section where someone has commented that they have the electric assist set at around 30%.
 
interested in this system since had shoulder surgery; how is it working out?
 
I purchased the kit from epowersteering. Wayne was very helpful. The system works great on and off road. Installed on a weekend.
Measurements and layout takes a bit of pre planning time. Steering column is the only thing I modified.
Now I don't have to have my shoulder replaced. For parking lots I set the adjuster to high, for freeway I set it to low. Winding roads varies depending on the road. Makes a world of difference.
