I thought I would get this thread going. Here is some information to ponder:
A buddy of mine sent me this article a couple of years ago that pretty much set everything in motion:
$100 Power Steering? Yes you can. Use Column Electric Power Assist System (EPAS) ! - Ford Muscle Forums : Ford Muscle Cars Tech Forum
This is the controller that I bought off ebay:
epas controler in eBay Motors | eBay
I found this information here on Mudd a year after I went through the headache of installing mine:
DIY Electric Power Steering
In that thread, x463 references this company. At the time I had no idea such a business even existed:
Welcome to ePowerSteering.com
Let me first start off saying that, when I started playing around with the idea of doing this, I really didn't have much faith that it was going to work. The build cost was pretty low, $70 for the electric power steering from Upull & Pay, $65 for the controller , and probably another $100 for misc. trial and error parts. Here are some pics of my set up. If I were to do it again there are things that I would change, but this is what my limited fab skills came up with. Also, I had two of everything, steering column and pedal assembly, in case it all didn't work out and I would have to put it back to stock.
Here are a few pics of how it is put together and what I had to do with the pedal assembly to get it all to fit.
