i could be wrong but it sounds like the UPS direct is a good way to go and that it eliminates all of these misc charges because UPS takes care of it all... what do you think?

I think UPS Direct should be looked at very seriously. I have shipped freight from overseas and ran into the same issue that pportmd has ran into. I decided it was not worth the headache so I started to ship DHLFreightForwarding which took all the headache out of the equation. I called DHL who took the order and it arrived on my door step in 2 to 3 weeks. If I needed an item fast I would use DHL Air Frieght which is expensive, but I would have items from a third world countly in 3 days to my doorstep. I am sure to get exact pricing a business account would have to be set up with UPS, but for what little work that would be, it could address a lot of problems including re-shippment once in the states.

And Ehsan offers direct DHL shipping to your door already, he quoted me $500 in September for the service. I thought the idea of a group buy would be to knock a couple hundred off that price. But if we can't then what is the point?????

Agreed it is easier in many respects, but may possibly cost more. Unless we can get some kind of discount for it as a group shipment. Guess we'll see what the shipping quotes are going to be.

annnd don't forget. That $500 includes shipping from the port to your door. pportmd's listing of prices doesn't even include that yet... and since he is going to have to repackage stuff that is going to make it even more time consuming and expensive.

i am extremely interested in DHL direct or UPS direct

Don't get me wrong, I'm interested in it too. It all depends if that is the cheaper alternative or not in the end. My quote is a few months old, seems prices of everything have gone up over the winter.

Just curious, do any part of the bows need to be welded together when installed?...or any welding involved once we get our top orders?

Also, has anyone Rhino Lined or Hurculined their top bows instead of painting them? Seems like it might be too rough on the top material but just curious. I am assuming they are coming from Eshan in raw metal form.

No welding required. Everything bolts/screws together.

I would not recommend using a textured paint for the reason you mentioned. The material needs to be stretched taught over the bows and a rough coating would wear through it. The bows come primered and will need finishing.

Thanks Martin. BTW did you use any CANVAK or canvas treatment before installing? I think they come with a wax already on them but did anyone treat theirs additionally for waterproofing & stain prevention or wait a little while until they have some wear already on them.

bump... wheres our tops :)

The ones I got had a light coat of primer applied. I am going to have them powder coated black.

Hey Guys! Thought I'd check in...

BeachVacation.jpg

Away on a vacation with the family using the soft top deposit money.

I hope you guys don't mind!

Hasta la viesta Baby!

Just kidding. That is not me or my family, just a generic picture from the internet. Half of your money is safely in the bank, the other half is somewhere in Pakistan.

so that means the part of it in Pakistan is unsafe? why would you think so? Pakistan is a safe and sound part of the world... :hillbilly:

Been there and it was not too bad of a place to visit.

We really don't need your comments here...... We have members on this board from all over the globe.... We don't need 1 douchebag from Boston starting s*** with an International businessman. Ehsan has offered alot to our Land Cruiser community, he does not deserve to be called a terrorist. If you feel the need to continue being outta line, I am sure we can have you removed from this board as fast, if not fast than you found it.

Ehsan, please don't take offense to this ignorant individual.... Looks like more chlorine needs to be added to the gene pool:hhmm:

Fair dealing

Yikes, what's going on here then?
Probably a good time to say enough is enough eh?

half up front and half on delivery is a fairly standard arrangement here in the states for a lot of transactions. It may be different in other cultures and it is sometimes necessary to give some up front money to buy materials and so forth

I would be disappointed to see more of this on MUD, I like the site for it's friendly help and common interest in the FJ. We can probably all agree on that.
