I have the manifolds off fixing a crack in the intake manifold floor and was wondering (since the pipes are loose already), should the EGR cooler be retained in the EGR system? I am running a GM TBI setup. The exhaust-cooler pipe needs to be repaired/replaced and I was wondering if I could just go strait to the EGR valve.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, removing the egr vavle will give you problems at smog time because it reduces your combustion chamber temps thereby reducing the hydrocarbons if I remember correctly, so removing it will increase the levels of HC's.
