Edelbrocks are terrible off camber. Hollys are not a lot better. QuadraJet is about the best off road carb I've used.

EFI is far better. The FAST, Holley or other aftermarket are easy to set up and run well, but they are very expensive. GM TBI works great, is cheap and there is a lot of info on it out there, but it's not 100% bolt on.

That all assumes you are using a chevy small block.

Thank you gumby
the car is stopped constantly leaves me in a very difficult situation. especially in descent and peak output. Well, if we give up carburator .. I have to choose which system efi

I do not know much about Quadrajet. What is the technical superiority Quadrajet? Quadrajet which should be chosen?

the float bowl in the q-jet is in a better location and the way the metering rods are located helps alot,..

I second the gm TBI, find a 1989-1995 gm truck and get everything, the only thing that seems to go bad is the base gasket between the throttle body and the intake manifold.. had a 1990 blazer with over 300k miles on it with no real problems in the injection system, outlasted 2 motors, make sure you run good plug wires the ignition system is real strong, cheep wires don't last.... you can also scavange the serpintine belt system too..

Ok.... What are your thoughts on the right holley truck avanger?

i used the truck avanger 670 for 6 years and it was perfect off road, but on the road fuel economy was bad and it run a little rich for my tast , i swap a tpi 350 in 2010 and fuel economy is better but i always like the simplicity of carb (less wires and no sensor and computer that can fail for no reason )
so if it is for off road only the truck avanger is your cheapest choice

Hi all,

xxsilveradoxx I am assuming that you are in Europe(?) or someplace else where North American-market GM vehicles are not common?

Consider this company for a 350 V-8 fuel injection:

Don't waste your time and money on another carb, I can tell you are running comp trials so you want something that works no matter what. GM TBI is a simple fuel injection system that works well; MPFI is more complicated but offers more performance.

Good luck!

Alan

Q-Jets are better than Truck Avengers off-road, but you still can't beat EFI! If you are competing then get EFI. Period.

My personal experience with Q-Jets is they do very well off camber and down hill. They can stall going up hill if at idle (too rich), like while waiting for Josie's Land Cruiser to get out of your way.

Thank you alan, Affordable-fuel Wonderful

Well, OK.... ( mas atomic efi, holley terminator efi, vs vvs) would not be preferred instead of chevy tbi or mpti?????

The Edelbrocks the floats are on the sides, pointing towards the rear. When going down the gas rushes forward to the front of the carb, floats drop down and open to let more fuel in. Not a good carb for what you are doing. Quadrajet the float bowl is in the middle of the carb. Much better for off roading.

qjet which should be used? There are many varieties of the above link

They are pretty close to the same. The Buick Oldsmobile ones have the fuel inlet facing forward. The chevy/ gmc ones have it facing to the right. The 750 cfm is what most cars used. 800 was modified or for bigger engines. Some engines used a divorced choke. Some used a vacuum/ exhaust choke. The easiest to use is the electric, non divorced choke. You don't want one with the electric metering from the later models, sometimes called a CCC carb.

My choice would be the 15800 on that page, I think.

I have the off road holley on my red fj40 (it was on there when I got it), Even with Jet changes they suck fuel, runs great on the road, good cold starts, ok for a driver or a desert truck, just not the thing for rock crawling or alot of off camber stuff.

I dont know about there, but the wrecking yards here are full of TBI trucks and cars, and the wring is simple. if you have a cam or more displacement( 383), you should be able to find someone local to burn you a custom chip for it, here local there is a guy who will do it for 100$ and does nice work.. we also got alot of the 305 camaros with tpi, and with a custom chip they work well on a stock 350...

you asked about the aftermarket stuff, most of it is just a nice looking version of the stock stuff with adjustable fuel and spark curves and bigger injectors. if you have a nasty motor with a really big cam or alot of displacement they have a place, but off road the stock stuff seems to work best..

good luck,
