I keep thinking someday someone will choose this tire (275/70r18 SL)and we'll get some evaluation data. It could have been you @eatSleepWoof

That tire was a strong contender until I decided that I didn't want a 275 width. It does sound like a pretty good option!

One of my choices. The 20s work for me. I'm looking to make the move once more reviews come out lol.

Oh my. How did I not find that myself?! That looks like a great option, especially with the 3-peak snowflake rating.

That 285/55/20 has lured me in. I could get a set of 5, run it year round with a 5-tire rotation, and after selling my 18" wheels and winter tires I'd only be around $700-900 out of pocket.

Local shop is telling me the Open Country AT3 won't be available in Canada until sometime later this year; 4 wheel parts CA does have them in stock, and on a 10% discount, but would involve shipping to me, which basically cancels out the 10% discount. Still a decent price, though.

It’s not a lot of sidewall . . . New compound always a plus

Now I'm considering the same Toyo tire in 305/50/20 again. You guys just had to give me more options! ;)

Hey @TeCKis300 - what spacers are you running? I know they're 1", but what manufacturer/model?

Hah, so many things I want to try too. Like some 35s. With the LX doing so much sitting around with this social distancing, I may just try it.

I got "TRD Pro" style spacers off ebay as they were the only ones I could find in 1" flavor back in the day. I can't seem to readily find them now.

I've had no qualms about them with the mileage and loads I've since placed on them.

No issues with generic 1” aluminum spacers here. Just make sure they have the little ridge like the hub has. I think they’re called centering spacers. 110mm 150mmx5.

Well, I cancelled the Nitto Ridge Grappler order, and instead ordered a set of 5 Toyo Open Country AT3 tires in 285/55/20; also in p-metric tire. One size up from stock, will try to run them year round and do 5-tire rotations.

^I think that's going to work out great! Let us know your impressions once you get it setup. And of course, pics. Lots.

Picked up some 285/55/20 Toyo AT3 tires 2 months ago for the wife's 2011 LX. Happy with the overall fitment and look, however they are not great tires for wet surfaces. We're in CA, so it doesn't rain much, but they are not grippy enough for a wet area imo. We have not ventured off to the mountains since the lock down, so not sure how they'll do in the snow.

Disappointing to hear that! Reviews and marketing material suggest these should be very good on wet surfaces.

Are you sure you ended up with the AT3? As I understand it, this tire only became available March 1st, so if you got it a few months ago, could it be a different tire?

AT2, you are correct.

Hopefully the AT3's are better. Let us know how they perform. I have Toyo's on Ram 2500 and happy with them, but they did not perform well on the LX with the recent rain we had.

The AT3's improved performance in the wet is one of the main marketing points being pushed by Toyo. Will definitely report back when I've had some seat-time with the tires.

I know you're not going to order 275s, but your use case sounds right up the alley of the Falken Wildpeak at3w. They have a 275/60r20SL 33" 48lbs. They are doing something funky with the belts at the bead to bulk up the sidewall without actually adding plies. 3pmsf

LX is at the dealer. They're diagnosing the squeal noise and think it's the water pump bearing going out. Turns out the LX still has a week of powertrain warranty (great timing!) and they'll replace that under warranty. They did suggest replacing the serpentine belt in any case, ($100CAD part, no labour charge) so I gave them the go ahead for that.

Anything else worth getting done while they're down there?

I ordered my parts to do this and I also got a tensioner, idler, thermostat, upper and lower hoses (and a radiator, but mine is failing). While you have it open and the coolant is out of the area is the time to do this.

Thanks. Will call the dealer and see how much it'll be to replace these items, too.

awesome.

how about idler pulley and tensioner? bloc has suggested fan bracket as well.

Fan bracket? As in, the bracket the radiator fan is mounted on?

// edit - found & read the thread, thanks!
