There’s a lot of new FJ40 owners out there and it’s time for us seasoned pro mechanics to step up and start helping out. If you have a transmission and transfer case combo you want to install, and you don’t know how, follow along in this simple “how to” video and you too can complete this basic task.

With the Rubithon looming over me, I have to get more done before the end of June, which means I need to self motivate and get the H41 transmission and Orion transfer case installed. Luckily the weather lit a fire under my seat and we got the job done. For the most part.

Bald?? I’ll have to look at this again, did not notice that.😀

I tried to put the 3sp tranny/transfer back in my 72 for like a day by myself. Next morning I used my A frame, pulled the engine. Mounted the t/t to the engine on the ground, re-installed the unit in less than an hour again by myself.

Did any one tell you that you are really bald?

:flipoff2:

Nice work. Hope to meet you in person on the Con this year. I still have to build an engine and install it.

You can watch G and I make love explosions!!
I’ll be there bro.

The clutch alignment tool holds the clutch centered on the pilot bearing so you can then tighten down the pressure plate which will hold the clutch disk in the perfect alignment established by the tool. After the pressure plate is tightened down, the a tool has done its job and can be removed.

Can the transmission be installed by itself and then the T case added? So far I haven't had a need to drop either but have wondered if it can be done separately?

On other trucks I've used my roll around motorcycle lift with a homemade wooden cradle to fit the transmission and it allows it to just roll into place from underneath.

When you were asking your wife to lower the cherry picker and she was saying that she didn't know how but you asked her to do it anyway, I thought the video would cut away and pick up in the hospital. I guess that would be revenge for the time you almost killed her when you pulled the engine out and the cherry picker tipped over. I love your truck and I'm a faithful viewer of your channel. My wife watches with me because she likes the back and forth between you two. Keep it up. I've finally cleared all the lesser projects out of the way and my FJ40 is next on the list!

For folks that do this all the time, I'm sure this is a super easy task. It took me two days and then it just aligned itself and slid right into place. I feel ya bud.
There’s plenty of open seats on the struggle bus!

It can be, but as a combo it’s my understanding it’s easier.

ok i have to ask...... what happened to your front tooth?!?
Broke it off. Getting a new one is a few months, just have to hillbilly it for a while.

The vid gives me traumatic flashbacks - been there. I now use FOUR long alignment dowels and it helps immensely but they still often fight. Also test fit the pilot bearing and polish the input shaft tip so it slips on easily - CRITICAL!

That’s some “been there” advice for sure. More alignment dowels, and longer ones would have helped. Polishing the input shaft? Not a bad idea. Solid feedback bro.
