Hi Kofoed,

Your last link to the Pony Express trail map and the Rand McNally map we have, shows us that indeed a large chunk of that trail is off the beaten track. :bounce::bounce:
So we will add this 4WD trail to our itinerary. It sure looks beautiful. The extra information you sent us will help us too.
Thanks for helping me out.

Rob

Some of the Pony Express route is right next to Highway 50, so not too isolated.

Read up on the Pony Express Rider "Pony Bob"

I would plan to spend A LOT of time in Utah....

in the East, look into the Blue Ridge Parkway through the Great Smokey Mountains

Hi,

@ jonharis : We have been in 1976 in Colorado. We had flights from Amsterdam to Denver and 4 weeks later from Denver (Stapleton Airport) back home. We have seen the Royal Gorge Bridge, Durango, Silverton and of course Mesa Verde NP. We have seen the best known National Parks in Arizona, Utah, California. From San Fransico we drove to Yellowstone NP and then back to Denver for our flight home.
In 4 weeks we made about 5600 miles.
We have to make choises, but who knows, we’ll come to Colorado too.

@ Kofoed : We integrated a part of the Pony Express Trail in our route. It is the part in Utah from Callao (East of Deep Creek Range) to Faust and Lehi.
You are right, most of our time in the States we’ll stay in Utah.

@ DSRTRDR : The Blue Ridge Parkway is on our Itinerary. We start NorthEast of Shenandoah NP and follow this Parkwy to the Great Smoky Mountains. Thanks for the confirmation of our choise to visit this part of the Appalachian Mts, so we made a good choise.
We hope Spring has started when we are over there.

@ beno : thanks for your offer and it is good to know where to find 1HZ parts.

Thanks for all your reactions,

Happy Trails,
Rob

let me know when you are passing through Baton Rouge or Phoenix

also, look into Natchez Trace on your way from Memphis to Baton Rouge/New Orleans - more scenic than the highway and lots of history

BTW, the Mississippi River ferries in Louisiana are either free or cost just $1

Hi Claudia,

Thanks, that's another wonderful tip. We'll change our itinerary between Nashville and New Orleans and follow the Natchez Trace Parkway for a large chunk.
Sorry, when planned to go around Baton Rouge and stay North of Phoenix. Big cities do not have our biggest interest.
Though we'll visit Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans and Lafayette because we hope to find some musical stimulation.

Thanks again, Rob

Hi landcrusher909,

I'll send you a PM when we are in the neighbourhood.
Thanks for your invitation.

Rob

Let me know when you are in/near northern California. I am between san Francisco and Sacramento, a two hour drive to the rubicon, lake Tahoe, Fordyce creek 4x4, etc... I have room for you to rest and wrench if needed. Cheers!!

Hi Rob,
I'm about thirty minutes West of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hard to tell, but it looks like you'll be passing through the vicinity.
Feel free to contact me if you need any assistance, or a place to stay. I have a lift, tools, etc., as well as an empty apartment above my shop.
Greg

Hi Greg,

Thanks for your warm invitation. I found the place on the map where you're living.
Our plan is to come down from the Niagara Falls and visit the grounds above the burning coal mines of Centralia (near Shenandoah, PA). After seeing that we want to drive to Shenandoah NP in Virginia and follow the “Blue Ridge Parkway” to the Great Smoky Mountains.
Maybe we'll come in your neighbourhood, then I'll contact you to see if you're home.

Thanks again and happy trails.

Rob

I can help in the southern NV part. Show you some old functioning ghost towns or lake mead Death Valley, Mohave road ( yes that's CA but it should be NV), big dune. All I ask is to check out you truck. For give me if I drool on it. My 80 and I should be able to tag along/help in many ways.

Hi Redstrider81,

We'll probably visit Yosemity NP and cross the Sierra's to Death Valley NP. After that we'll visit Mojave NR and Joshua Tree NP. Then we'll go to the Mexican Border. If we're in the neighbourhood I'll send you a PM, maybe we make a side step into Nevada.
In 1976 we've been to Lake Mead, the Hoover Dam and we visited Callico Ghost Town (CA).
It's nice to hear you like our truck.

Thanks and Happy Trails
Rob and Nettie
