Early 80's with lockers?

I know the 91 and 92 80's all had a center diff lock with them but recently on cruiser solutions they have a 91 fj80 they have sold that they claim had a rare rear electric locker. i have never seen an early 80 with anything like this...is it true. and what do you guys think is a better truck- a 62 or an early 80 model

pretty sure they didnt come with lockers, someone might have added it though.
62 will get better gas mileage, have a little more power, less maintenance issues with front axles. 80's wider, cheaper to add a lift too. 91-92's are a little heavy for the engine, but if speeds an issue, one would want something other than a cruiser.

For what 62s bring you could probably move to a 93/94 FZJ80 and get one with all the toys (factory lcokers). There is a night and day difference between wheeling an 80 and wheeling a 60/62. Driving an 80 is almost like cheating.

Your right on all accounts. The one thing that the 62 has going for it is that no-one will mistake you for a soccer mom .

fj60guy, Just looked at your sig, I assume the 80 doesn't see much dirt or mud?

Your right, your truck would look a lot better with 35's in stead of the 31'

If anyone wants a mint 60/62 check here in Lubbock, Texas.

There are literally 30 running around here with a population of 10,000 people.

A quick jaunt downtown yesterday and I spotted 6 of them and 1 going home. Again all mint.

Now the bad news, the one I saw for sale was $17,000 and 181,000 miles.

Maybe better deals can be had?

Well, consider you are asking this in the 80's forum. In my view, the 80 is one, if not, the best all around truck, including for trail, ever made and the 62 has the worst of just about everything going for it especially for trail; like long wheelbase but still leaf springs etc.

FZJ80's are definatly the sheet. Mine looks fine(and so does my wife while driving it) with 31's. It will look even better once I put on new tires and springs and and and

The thing is, even after all the goodies, its still the same truck that the family down the street goes to softball games in. This isn't a bad thing, it just is what it is. The 62 is a relic. People from all walks of life ask about it. You can keep them bone stock or you can lift and lock them. Either way people will notice. Plus the 62 is done depreciating, 80's are still dropping. Which ever vehicle you decide on you will be getting a bad a$$ truck.

paid under $3k for my 87 60, could have a nice 97 fzj80 for less than that, dont see why anyone would pay that for a 62, maybe a nice troopie or 45 maybe.

I think the falling 80's prices will hurt 60/62 prices, only cause if i had to choose only one, and they were similar price, would pick the 80 hands down for all around use. good thing I dont have to choose just one

But as far as prices go, I have to disagree. The 60 series tanked about a year ago, and have been stable ever since. Prices may go down a few more $'s but nothing like the 80's

The other 170,000 can't afford a LC.

So for 30 mint 60/62 LC's for a population of 10,000 is pretty high IMO.

I've only owned a fj55 (free) and an fjz80 ($6000) so when I saw the prices on those things (fj60) I thought "I wonder what the big deal is?".

There are tons of 40's running around here also all sky high $$$$$$$

If you jaunt just across the NM border everything is free, comparatively speaking.

To add to all of the other things said about the early 80... the fit and finish of the interior leaves much to be desired, and for some reason Toyota really dropped the ball on the braking system.

the early 80 has a better interior than the later 80, inmho -- much more rugged and no plastic faux veneers --

-- fit and finish on early 80s is exactly the same as the later 80s -- the toyota production system is standard on all 80s -- thankfully --

-- and an early 80's sheet metal is much better quality and protected than the 60's --
