Can someone be so kind as to tell me how to adjust the cables for my stock e-brake setup(fj62). It all looks like it's in good enough condition to work properly if adjusted. Plus it'll save me from having to keep climbing underneath and turning the adjuster over and over. Thanks in advance, Roger

I second that inquiry does anyone have a diagram ? also has anyone experienced the e brake light on the dash staying illuminated when in fact the e brake is not engaged - electrical diagram?

Usually it means you're low on brake fluid in a 62. Or the float switch on the resevoir cap has gone bad. One or the other. My rear brake issue is that without the drums regularly adjusted you run the risk of over exteending yhe piston in the wheel cylinder to leak. Check your L+R rear on the inside at the bottom of the drum it will be wet maybe even the tire too! That is if you have a leak, your front pads could be running kinda thin.

Yeah, start with adjusting the rear drum brakes. If the e brake is still to loose, then there is a knob on top that will tighten the cable.

The warning light comes on when you are low on brake fluid, so check then. Then check the float switch and the switch under the parking brake handle--I'm not sure where this is, but if you look you should find it.

I just adjusted mine and cleaned up the contacts on it last night. There is a small relay on the driv side of the e-brake handle with a threaded rod and switch coming out of it. The 2 nuts on either side of the bracket adjust the height of the switch so that the e-brake handle pushes it down/releases it at the appropriate time.

Is the nut on the handle the only adjustment? It just seems to me there are too many different attachment points at the connections between the cables. I did need the cables adjusted not the handle it seems in good working order. not sure if there was a miscommunication either way will try first thing in the A.M. Thanks, Roger

As long as your shoes/drums are adjusted correctly, the nut on the brake handle should be all you need.

the only reason I ask is that the cables are somewhat limp, for lack of a better word. THanks.

do a search for "bell crank". It could be that your bell cranks are frozen in the retracted position, making the cable slack. Emergency brake cable adjustment starts with properly working and properly adjusted rear brakes.

Is this for a 60 or 62 ?? (above diagram)

My brake light has come on but not fully illuminated as its gets brighter when i pull up the e brake.. does that have anything to do w the level of the fluid???

thanks

L

It sounds like the brake light is being switched on by something else, then the handle switch makes a better contact when engaged. Probably the flimsy little switch in the reservoir. Unplug the reservoir from the truck, see if the light goes out. If light goes out, then the reservoir switch is stuck on.
