I thought the dynas did not come in four door and four wheel drives?

Saw one the other day.

What engine was offered?

Rob

I've never seen a 4wd 4door dyna.... There is a 4wd 4door truck rolling around these parts the resembles a dyna, but is made by.. Hyundai? I don't recall. The 4wd is next to useless unless heavily loaded in back, in which case it is still pretty weak.

Regardless, a 4door 4wd dyna would make a great camper platform! Not a cruiser, for sure, but bigger and heavier payload and probably cheaper repair parts in most of the world. More info would be nice.

There's one over here, but it's not stock. They made it from two dynas. One double cab, the other 4wd.

we've done that a couple of times at our work with isuzus. before the current model they weren't offered as crew cab 4wds. fair bit of labour involved. mistubishi sold crew cab canters in 4wd.

AFAIK,the 4x4 are the same as the 2wd versions in the engine bay
The smaller ones like the 100 150 and 200 use a few parts from the Hilux and Hiace range so they have the 3L and 5L diesels and maybe 1KZ.

The older ones had 3B including the Diahatsu badged version but they seem to be fairly rare.
There is also a miltary version 4x4 with a single cab which looks nothing like a Dyna

They did a Dyna with Mega Cruiser underpinnings. It uses a 15B-FTE. The military version also uses the Mega Cruiser parts.
I would love to get my hands on either of them

Oooooh, I would not mind that as a daily driver.

I'm glad those don't exist around here. I'd get into a lot of trouble. My yard isn't big enough for me to collect them as well...

I dont know where I got this pic from but I think its also 4WD(converted)
75 dyna dual cab 4wd (Small) (Large).webp

very cool truck.... on the list of "someday I want...."

That is a nice Dyna there, Rosco. Any other photos or info on that truck? It looks to be a nicely set up rig.

On a slightly related note, I stumbled across an add in the papers today for a 90 Hino cab over turbo diesel with a PTO Hydraulic pump for a dumper for $4000. If I had the money I'd be all over it. I don't know which model it is either. Don't know if it's a Hino badged Dyna, would be nice to find out.

I've seen those! Very cool, very practical and I thought the same thing about a camper. Actually I hitched a ride in one in a remote place in the South of Chile... very roomy in the back!

Toyota Dyna four wheel drive

Hi all. From my earliest memories I have been obsessed with forward control 4WD light trucks. I have owned an old RU12 for over ten years now; the approach angle is the big attraction, as well as the ability to carry twenty times as much junk as my FJ40 could.

At last the time has come to get stuck into converting the old RU12 to a fourby. Too many sandy tracks to explore here in Australia!

The process planned will see an absolute minimum of cutting and welding and avoidance of custom parts wherever possible; the commonality of LandCruiser and early Dyna is a boon in this respect.

Once I can work out how to post pics I can set up a journal.

I have put a ton of research into this so far and would be glad to be of assistance to anyone keen on a similar project, and if anyone can foresee looming disaster and disappointment please be kind enough to share your wisdom.

Looking forward to it. I know someone who has a done a few 80s coaster 4wd conversions. He uses the front axle from a 40/45 series as the width is almost identical.
The early model coasters and dynas are almost identical underneath

Hey Rosco, time to share.

The old Coasters were identical running gear to the Dyna; that is pre 5 stud wheels.

I will be using a HZJ75 high pinion front diff, this will accept the Hilux bellcrank which avoids the complexity of using the 40 style frame mounted bellcrank.

75 diff is 4.1 and the rear will be a (forgive me) N****n H260 from GU leaf ute; the full floater at 4.111 - a bit like the old F250 with 4.10 rear and 4.09 front.

These N****n diffs are supposed to have a good LSD guts, but what about the transmission? GQ Patrol 4.2 iron case 5 speed can be converted to column shift using bus parts, and are almost free.

I hope too much N****n stuff won't get me kicked off the forum, but there is no way to fit a decent 5 speed Toyota box with column shift - the R151 is in my moderately experienced opinion only good for a truck to one and a half tons.

My truck is powered by the high torque baby Buick - the one with the pipe headers. The box I have run for the last eight years (the "long hat") has a 0.75 over fifth which is asking a bit much, the N****n box is 0.85 so she should cruise nicely.

Front is already spring over as 2WD with 3' drop beam, and leaves are dead flat - just gotta flip the rear perches, this will give a lift of five and a half inches....please pray with me to pass the Moose test (swerve test in Aus).

I'll be happy to bop along at 55mph anyway - the places I go aren't going anywhere soon...

Hey RU12 4X4, do you know of any in the R15x family that has cable shift?
I need one for my 1KZ-t converted Volvo 6X6...

We aren't like that here, well... as long as you post some pictures of it when you put it together!
