So far, either one of those works for me, and cali, the earlier one is two or three weeks after the 45 run. I don't know why, but I always thought dusy was a little tight for a big wagon, and figured if I ever ran this the battlescarred XJ would be what I brought.

I'm down if I actually get the poor 60 lifted, and get the lockers to behave themselves. Parts are in the garage, I'm just lazy. :D

Is October late enough in the season that I'd need to grab the chains out of the flowerstroke? Someone else mentioned this being close to trail closure dates.

Chains really won't do you much good on the Dusy. October is a great time to go IMO. The mosquitos are all but gone, showers keep the dust down and cool weather keeps ice longer. Dusy's mandated closure date is Nov. 1st so unless we get some sort of freakishly cold storm that dumps more than a foot of snow we don't need to worry about it.

dusy without mosquitos? okay, count me in, I'll make it happen.

worse comes to worse dylan will have to bug me about getting the truck lifted and squared away the next several times I wander through his work getting oil filters for the fleet. I probably have too many cars.

seriously though, sounds awesome, especially if you guys are saying a 60 with 33s can run this. Will the difference between 33x10.5s and 33x12.5s make a big difference?

I prefer cooler camping to warmer camping. Some of my favorite camping has required a below zero bag, and keeping beer in the ice chests to keep it WARM - the ones left out of the ice chest froze

If your gonna run 33's be ready for body damage and braking something, it might not happen just be ready for it. Two week ago when the Fresno Club opened Dusy one truck broke his steering arm in half(not toyota but a dana60) another rig tore off his tcase/trans mount. It is kinda rare to run dusy and not brake something. It's not a supper hard trail but it'll find the weak spot in your rig.

We need to move at a good pace if we are doing this in three days. Thats 10miles a day and if we are doing good we'll be avg 1mile every 30-45mins. 5 to 7 hrs of wheeling a day.

We will be anywhere from 8,000' to 11,000' so plan plan on bringing that 0bag with you. last time I was there in October it was 16* when we got up in the morning and we had snow flurry's off and on for 2 days. daytime temps if its clear will be in the 50*s.

Heh. I won't even ask how you tear off a tcase/trans mount. Body damage isn't a great concern as this poor thing isn't even close to winning concours, much less not getting called in by the neighbors when I visit family with it.

And time in the saddle doesn't bother me one bit. Either way, keep me posted, as long as work doesn't turn psycho on me (again), I'll get the monster rollin.

We're doing this in 4 days Jason. Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. 2 days at Ershim.

Over the weekend I've made some discoveries that I thought I should share. First I want to reinforce what Jason said above. 33" tires will get you body on the Dusy. Second, make sure your power steering is in order and has a cooler. Ask me how I know :D. Third and the most important, fill up in Shaver and bring fuel. Dusy is 33 miles in itself and I used about a half-a-tank in 18 miles of it. And I assume the bottom half of the stock tank will go faster than the top. I will fill my tank this week and let you all know what I burned. I plan on bringing 10 gallons.

Not if it is in Oct, if it is in Sept I might be able to make it.

So really. How do you know? :D

Fuel is really easy to forget about. Fortunately, my 60 gets decent mileage, otherwise I might be concerned. A friend ran dusy a couple of years ago with his 350 powered buggy, and burned 38 gallons.

How did the trail look compared to last year? I heard Red has gotten worse, and last year when I took the XJ there it was a LOT worse than I was expecting, and was supposedly a lot worse than the year before. And no, I didn't lunch a dana 30, thanks for asking :flipoff2:
