I have a desmogged 12/79 fj40 and was wondering if I could use an dual pulley alternator from a fj62 in order re-route the belt that would go to the smog pump that I want to remove. I have factory power steering.
I've searched for a while and coudn't find any conclusive evidence either way.
I realize I would have to find a belt the proper length. Instead of spending the money on an idler pulley I could get an alternator with slightly more output. Also, would the wiring be easily modified?
In order to pass VA state inspection I need to pass the visual test, no emissions. I would just gut it, but a smog pump with no hoses attached looks conspicuous.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
