Hi,

I'm doing a dual battery install in my fzj80. Going well so far. The slee windshield washer bottle relocation kit installed easily - natch.

Only thing I haven't figured out (so far) is whether I need to keep the little air-box that hangs off of the air cleaner - I think it's a resanator of some sort. This air-box has one hose the runs to the center of the air cleaner, and a second that goes to (what I think is) the EGR.

This air-box is in the way of the second battery tray. The easy, clean, and very tempting route is just to run a hose directly from the air-cleaner to the EGR - eliminating the air-box all together.

Will it cause problems to remove this air-box? Or is it worth the extra work to relocate it?

I'd love to know what this air-box is for also...

Thanks to all in advance.

It's not EGR it is pulsed air injection. The box is a silencer. You do not have to have it. Without it you will have a bit of a burbling sound when the engine is cold and on deceleration. Not a problem, just a different sound.

Cool! One less thing to do!

Thanks.

Has anyone come up with a creative solution for this? I'd rather not remove a part, and am trying to figure out another option.

Here's a picture for reference. I used red dots to mark the part in question and both ends of the connected hose.

my writeup has the part # for a napa hose that works great after the resonator is removed:
