any progress?

The proto type is built and it works. The next step is refining it, sourcing production bolts, bearings etc.

Because of the Australian company's interest, I'm not quite ready to post pictures.

Thanks for being patient!

The next step is to "donate" one to me so I can test it!! I could then "donate" something of value back to you!!

:)

I would love a rough prototype. My ARB fridge arrives in a week and a half and I have a week long trip in two weeks. pm me if there is an available one. I pay cash and pick up quick.

Good news

Very very impressive build. You've got skills, 'copy' or not.

Thanks!!

My first slide build was a copy, but the current version will be original.

Finally got back to working on the slide. Felt great to get my hands dirty again and play with metal!!

Drop Down Slide update

I know it has been a while since I have posted about the slide.

I have been working steadily on the slide since the beginning of the year. After four complete renditions, I think I have a viable working slide.

Over the President’s Day holiday I took the Drop Down Slide on a four day Mohave Trail real world shakedown run. Well, the slide did very well and was well received by my fellow club members who joined us on the trail.

My next step in the process is meeting with local parts suppliers to replace the homemade parts with production parts. This will make the slide bullet proof and easier to produce.

I will be showing off the slide at my next SoCal Land Cruiser Club meeting and if any LA/Orange County area guys want to see the slide in person and report back, let me know and I’ll give you our meeting info.

at what height will these things need to be mounted? I was thinking of ordering the AT version "A" drawers which are 8.75".

Excuse my ignorance...but from the photo it appears your "new" design is the same as your first model?

The designs look similar as the slides do the same job. The new design has moved the pull down handle from the rear of the slide to the front; the handle can be folded either forward or backward, depending on preference. Tall people can push the handle to the back and out of the way when using the fridge and for shorter people or taller trucks, the ability to fold the handle down in front of the fridge will allow use without having to straddle the tailgate to get to the handle when you want to put the fridge away.

My storage box is 15 inches tall and the slide will drop the fridge 11 inches. It would not be a problem to have the fridge drop a shorter distance. If you are planning to use 8.75 inch high drawer system, a drop down slide may not be necessary; a straight slide may be adequate. The slide is primarily designed for those who have trouble accessing their fridge when it is strapped to the top of their storage system or they don’t want to continually lug the fridge down to the tailgate every time they need to get a beer!

The secondary purpose of the drop down slide is to allow you to utilize more of your storage system for storage. Often the compromise with having a fridge and easy access to the fridge is to lose storage space. In order to have easy access to the fridge it needs to remain low. The drop down slide will allow the best of both worlds.

We really need you to start selling these and stop teasing us!

I'm a buyer. How much and WHEN?

:)

I plan on selling the slide for $550 plus shipping. The shipping weight is approximately 80 pounds from zip code 92805. Lead time on the first few slides will be about 30 days.

Anybody purchasing the slide right now will be getting a handmade one off slide. That is a very expensive way to produce a slide. I'm working with a local tool and die shop to turn the prototype slide into a production model. I’m hoping with streamlined production the cost of parts and labor will go down, as will the price of the slide. Patients will be rewarded!!

This slide is currently designed around the Engel 35/45 metal fridge.

Thanks! Me Too!!

It took quite a bit of reworking and tinkering to get it just perfect. There are a lot of moving parts. But, it is now quite a thing of beauty! I’m working hard to get it ready for production.

I'll take one of the unpainted original prototypes that are laying around... :D I have cash and I'm down in your area tomorrow...

Trust me, you don't want the leftovers! Actually the steel from the prototypes that did not work was recycled into the one good prototype I'm currently using as a production model.

I have no problem if you want to see it. Let me know when you are in Orange County.

Jerry,

great job. Platinum, bad boy!!! Patents are fun stuff, austrailian patents don't hold a lick of weight here, now if they have filed for a US patent, then there is somethng to consider. They could have patented lowering a fridge from one height to another and that is the essence of the patent. Jerry, you have published your work here, make sure that the images stay accessible on this site, that proves that you had this idea here in the states and gives you some shelter.

Allow me to state: I AM NOT A PATENT EXPERT, but i have worked with patent crooks in the past and now i work for a giant corporate monster that likes to patent my ideas (if they were patentable, hahaha)

Jerry, I love you, enthusiasm and your laid back, respectful approach. As a designer who has worked for "inventors" aka. innovators without a lot of money, there are local groups that support people with your grit and gumption and offer free info and peer support.

Keep kickin' A$$ at a cool and probably better made product than the grumpy passive aggressive assie!

Sincerely,

Jeremy

Ps. mind if i copy your design? :flipoff2:
