So Phil I need to rebuild one of my diffs with the Torsen limited-slip. I finally got a spare axle that I can get the small pinion shims I need. Is your shop by appointment only or a driveups welcome:rolleyes: ? I would like to install them in my running 61. The axles are in my running 60 that I'm going to use the floor out of to replace the one in my other 61. Let's see that would taking me from two running 25s and two non runners to one runner and three non runners. That is the way it's suppose to be done right:rolleyes: ?

John

You're getting the hang of it...may I suggest a bit of "project creep" or "while I'm in there" to disable the lone runner, perhaps a brake job or chase down one of those pesky oil leaks...

No appointment needed, disregard the "Hotel California" neon sign...

I can check With M&M automotive and see what shape their old drivelines are in. Might have drivelines you could get parts off of. I know their are not looking to make big money off their leftover parts and would like to see them go to someone who could use them. Don't forget I know where a bell housing is in junkyard and should be able to pick it up pretty cheap.

I would love to get a good bellhousing!!! Then, I can repair the cracked one to pass along or keep for a rainy day. If you find other useful things, i.e. E brake assy, driveshafts, tranny shifter:cool:, I would truly be gratefull!

PM me with details:D:beer:

My offers still stand...lots of parts available here...PM me if interested

Different tranny bolt pattern, I gather. Plus, 25 bellhousing is not a deep. Maybe a shorter input shaft?

That's exactly it. The motor side of the bellhousing is the same as later, but the transmission side is different. So you need a FJ25 bellhousing to bolt up the FJ25 tranny.

Writing on the Wall!

It's with some sadness that I say this. The 25 is going to get a later FJ40 drive line. The original tcase and yoke, both driveshafts, and the rear pinion are in poor shape. Combine that with the broken bellhousing, and I think my decision has been made for me.

Maybe if the body were better and I had more of the impossible to find parts, I'd spend the money.

So. I'm now looking to put in a later 4 speed w/tcase, rear end, bellhousing, and new d shafts. If anyone has tips or cautionary tales, I'm all ears.

Basically all bolt-in, but it will be a lot. Personally, I don't think it would be cheaper, but it's your rig.

Off the top of my head:

Bellhousing
Clutch
Four speed and transfer with shifters.
Driveshafts
I "think" you can relocate the slave cylinder to the right side and use the original setup.
Rear axle (make sure the pinion flange matches, year?)
Front axle (same deal with the pinion flange)
Brake lines
Cut the crossmember - install one from a three speed frame, or maybe turn the existing one upside down.
Cut the floorboard over the transfer case.

Not sure on the bore sizes for the later wheel cylinders and if they'll work with the existing master, but you should look at disc brakes if you're going that far.........

I'll take the original tranny, any condition. :grinpimp:

When I make progress in the swap, I'll put the original things up for grabs. Trades are good, too...

:D I've got a pile o' three speeds with matching transfers, bellhousings driveshafts and axles.........................but so doesn't everyone. :D

If I can get the bell housing cheap enough I guess I"ll buy since it looks like somebody might need it. No flywheel. The engine block is there but the bell housing was removed and I don't have any idea on where the flywheel went. Archie the shipping would cost way more than the part itself, but I guess if you need one it's worth it.

So Phil when I asked about your shop this is the answer I got. Maybe there's a problem with parts not able to leave too. But seriously if you have extra bell housings there no need for me to pick this one up. I doubt I'll ever need it. The demand for FJ25 bell housing isn't real high here in Phoenix so I'm sure it will be there if I ever need it.

John

Well I had to go to that junk yard today and while I was there I bought the bell housing. Now I noticed that there is a couple of flywheels close by. Can one of you guys post a picture of a FJ25 flywheel and what numbers are on it? One of them looked funny like it was to thin for a cruiser, is this what the FJ25s had? I know Phil had a tread about the clutch a while back so I guess I do a search too. But I would really like to know the numbers. Do they have FJ25 or BJ25 like other 25 parts?

John

I'm pretty sure the flywheel is the same, at least not different enough to notice. When are you going back? I'll try to get the numbers off a flywheel.
