Driveshaft Lengthen--Am I getting ripped?

$140 each locally if he can get the metric tubing --more if he has to machine it to fit imperial tubing.

Does that sound right? Seems high but there is only 1 guy local that does em

I've paid anywhere from $110 to $150 each for re-tubing. Sounds about right.

Sounds in the range. It is 10X the work to lengthen versus shorten plus the tubing is a bastard size that no one has and they have to buy a standard length of way more than they need to do your project which ain't cheap and they will prolly never use again. Like anything, shop around. Plenty of places you can ship it to if local options limitted.

I had a shaft shortened here and the guy charged $100. Now that's a rip.

I can get one shorten for about $90. and legthen for about $160. that's in LV.

Sounds about right for a retube, but my guy found a standard size tube that fit and was way thicker than stock...

Use the tube from a dodge truck shaft (Maybe other US trucks too, never looked)... turn down the end section of the Toy shaft a tiny bit so that it fits in. This is a larger diameter shaft than the toy shaft and a thicker wall section... and you can get a junkyards shaft to cut up for almost nothing.

always shop around, i paid $100 one time in Moab for new tube and overnight service!

and go with the thicker wall tube, not the Metric replacement stuff

It's funny cause every transmission and machine shop in town gave me this guys name but I could never catch him in--they all said yeah I know but just go back late in the day---sure enough I caught him coming in from a ride

I've done a few myself. If you look around you should be able to find a take out that's longer than your current ones. FWIW the fronts from minitrucks are the same diameter. I used two of them for the double cardain sp? joints. This also allowed me to shorten both shafts because the joints added length. Also if you're just going with normal joints some of the male sides are different lengths, so depending on what you need you might be able to just use a combination of stock parts. Anyway, the tubing is probably not the easiest thing to find, so $100 probably isn't a horrible price.

Just stopped by the shop and they were able to source the tubing---it was the only metric size available

If I had more time I would be looking to find bargains but at this stage I am looking to ship my vehicle overseas before Jun so I am hurrying just to get her up and running
