I have a question for the group concerning our 1970 40 series: I picked up a driver's-side splash shield and I'm debating whether or not to attempt to install it. I believe that this shield was originally intended to bolt to the top of the driver's-side frame rail inside the engine compartment in the vicinity of the steering box. There are some unused threaded holes in that location that appear that they would work for that; however, the shield won't fit because of the headers. But I believe that the shield would work if I mounted in that same location under the frame rail. I would need to drill new mounting holes and either tap them for M8 or use nutserts. In order to gain access to drill the bottom of the frame, I would need to remove the front driver's leaf spring. I'm debating whether or not the juice is worth the squeeze. What say the group?
Thanks.

I’m in a similar situation with the passenger side. I’m running both brake lines across my firewall like they did with disc brakes on my 74. The splash guard from the 74 is different than one that had disc brake. That being said I would have to drill one hole and tap it to fit the later model splash guard. Are I could possibly cut the one off the 74 not accommodate the brake junction that attaches to the frame.

The picture you posted shows a cut out for what I assume is the stock exhaust pipe…..my 68, the drivers side splash guard is square cut….i wonder if the earlier models had a shorter guard???
must be.

Perhaps it was out of boredom (no projects to tinker with) or because of what a nice feeling it is to tap new threads but for whatever reason, I went ahead and retrofitted the driver's side splash shield to mount it to the bottom of the framerail. After seeing the photos posted by @21NDone it is embarrassing to post mine, but here they are nonetheless. (Yes, I know that it is backwards).

Looks like it will work in that orientation.

And don't worry, my truck hasn't seen the road yet. In time it will look more like a used part.
