Hey guys

Do any of you have photos of where the fill hole for the tranny on an '05. I have looked at the service manual and the diagram seems off. I called my local toyota service and they said they can only do a drain and fill for the '05 and no fluid exchange. Drain and fill is about $150.

I have 4qt of the WS oil already.

thanks

there is a note about this procedure in the latest TLCA magazine. The description of the process does not sound like something I would attemp on my own, in fact, for $150 it sounds like a good deal. How many miles do you have?

Yup, I read that too, hence the price quote. I don't think its pricey either but I want at least half that fluid replaced.

Spend the money on a '03 pan with a dip stick and filler tube(~$150) and call it done.

That sounds great and interested in doing this. Has anybody done this change? Anybody care to share their experience doing this? Are the specs for the pan the same?

Ditto, I'm curious. I think the way Toyota requires you check the oil level on the later model trannys is just ridiculous.

You can do a fluid exchange on the tranny by dropping the cooler lines, old oil pumped out, new oil back in the return, I did it on mine but mine has the dipstick so it was easy to fill via there, otherwise you just need to hook up a hose to the return line with a funnel and replace there. Search here there will be more info. I did a write up on it but I don't think I posted it (or finished it?)

For some reason the dealer said that '04+ can't do fluid exchange due to how the oil has to be added on these models.

He may be pertaining to the fact that these do not have dipsticks to check oil level, and oil level is checked by having AT fluid at a certain temp range and having the overfill plug removed.

this still doesn't make sense to me. I think they can still do the fluid exchange and then remove the overfill plug when temp is correct and then fill via fill plug as necessary. right????

overall I'm still interested in the '03 oil pan solution. does it come with all the hardware for the dipstick like straps to hold them up on the engine bay?

Call Cruiser Dan on the board and he can get you all the parts you need. Its not a kit, just parts from an '03.

$150 is a fair price if you consider a shop rate of $95hr reasonable.

This isn't too difficult a procedure but most aren't familiar with it yet.

So have you done this mod? How did it go?

Sold my '06 LC did not get the chance.
Same trans, same pan gasket, same frame, same motor and trans mounts no reason it will not work. '03 LC is the only vehicle I found with a A750F trans with a dip stick, checked all Tundra running the same trans no stick.

I happen to talk to the mechanic who works on my LC while I was in the dealer this week and we were discussing the transmission fluid. He says the reason there is no dipstick on the 05s + is because the WS fluid is very hygroscopic. He also said that at this point, he wouldn't consider doing a tranny flush because the equipment at the dealer is not really up to par with how delicate the new WS fluid is.

His suggestion was have the dealership drain and fill at around 100K intervals. This is coming from someone who I trust with my LC.

Take your fluid and go to the dealer and have them drain and fill is my suggestion.

I found my write up on what I did, if you want a copy PM me your email address.

If you trust that you have the correct fluid level in there, there is no problem undoing the drain plug and measure how much you drain, and then fill the same amount into the fill hole. (Volume depends on temperature)

If you have time on your hands, you can follow the instructions here to check the level. (Thanks to LCOOL)

Many of the newer Aisin units are self-contained (no radiator heat exchanger) and they can not be flushed. The tranny does have a fill-plug, drain-plug, and over-flow tube. These tranny's come with WS ATF and needs to be checked at a certain temperature, when doing a drain and fill. Manual says inspect fluid at 100K during normal driving and at 60K miles if towing.

Reports on BITOG on WS fluid are not encouraging. It is not holding up better than standard fluids so conservative change intervals are probably a good idea.

In a lot of reading I never heard the "hydroscopic" theory before. My understanding is that it is a pretty standard low viscosity fluid with Aisin friction modifiers in the same way T-IV was pretty much a DIII class fluid with Aisin friction modifiers. Lots of aftermarket options for WS now.

Your 06 doesn't have a transmission cooler ?

Maybe used oil analysis on a sample of your drain would be a good idea. Then you would know whether replacing the rest of the fluid was necessary.

I agree with this.

The drawing they had on this is a little confusing for me. The fill plug they had on the drawing seems to be on the wrong side. In fact this is what's stopping me from doing this cause I cannot seem to find the fill plug. I saw where it could be but the drawings I've seen seem to show the wrong side

Is the' 03 5-speed Aisin identical to the '04-'07 Aisin 5-speed other than the WS fluid? What fluid is recommended for the '03?
