How about a new tube for the fill hole and just use the overflow hole as your level gauge. The overflow makes getting the level easy and you will only need to check the level when filling. It's getting new oil in that sounds difficult.

Yes the fill is the PITA. I typically like the idea of the overflow except in this case it is only accurate at certain temp range.

So is a dipstick. I think the proper temp is pretty easy to get because it is just the operating temp. A few highway miles will get it there.

The overflow is actually a better system since overfilling is a common cause of bad performance and dangerous too.

After changing atf on both types several times:
Filling atf through the dipstick tube is a slow process that easily gets messy. You need the patience of a saint.
Filling the A750 is easy through the fill hole IF you have a good pump of some kind. I got a cheap 12 volt oil change pump, and didn't spill a drop. Just fill until it runs out of the overflow (into a bucket). You can't do that with a dipstick.

I did another drain and fill last weekend this time it went a lot smoother. Before starting, I bought some 1/2" ID vinyl tubing and cut it to about 4-5ft. I dropped one end of it from the hood down - DS side to the floor. I then inserted that end in the fill hole about 3" - the fit was perfect that it would not come off easily with weight of the fluid. I then just pushed/routed the tubing up a bit so that it would not sag. I poured the desired quantity of ATF thru a funnel connected to the other end from the hood. It went down very fast and the tubing did not retain any fluid and no leaks on the fill hole. It was surely a lot easier this time around!

BTW the fluid this time looked a lot better than the first drain and fill.

Cruiser Dan got back to me and he is not aware of the possibilites of swapping the '03 and '05 tranny pan. He said they are different trannys and no dimension specs for the parts.

Same trans and same pan gasket, just a different pan according to the parts catalog:confused:You need to push him...he getting old:flipoff2:

Tsarte seems to have figured out a system that makes a pan swap unnecessary.

What was " the desired amount" of ATF for a single drain and fill ?

Yes I did :). I even thought of making the fill tube permanent using better tubing materials but it would make it difficult to keep clean inside. Besides running the tubing ang removing it takes no more than 20 seconds. The tubing is a lot more accurate compared to the pump which seems to hold more residual fluid in it and the two tubings it requires.

I filled it with 2.75 qts which is the amount from the first drain. After a few tries I have finally figured out the process to measure the atf temp. The '04 service manual was vague - I think was a typo. I checked hdj tranny manual posted in a diff post which was more detailed and accurate. I'll be checking the level this weekend.

would doing the fluid swap cold eliminate the temperature/volume measurement issue

yes I understand this is an old thread
I am using the search feature
get off my a$$

No. The fluid level has to be correct when it's at the operating temp. It's not very complicated to just heat it up and then fill until it runs out through the overflow.

Guys at the Lexus dealership in Vegas have never changed out all the fluid in a WS fluid LX. They only did drain and fill. When I was in Denver having Slee do my OME suspension and Slider up grade I took advantage of having the best change all my fluids including changing out all the WS fluid. They also did my T's, spark plugs, wheel bearing repack, etc. your really lucky you live so close.
