My 03 came with the DT catback exhaust from the previous owner, and I can't stand it. It drones incessantly on the highway and has some type of metallic resonance at around 60-65mph. I remember my old 100 was so pleasant on road trips, and this exhaust is exhausting. Would replacing the muffler make it more bearable? What about extending the tip so it exits behind the truck instead of underneath? I hate to rip it out.

Depending on the muffler itself, a start would be to route it out the back. If it is a chambered muffler, might not help at all. I have a turbo style muffler welded in with stock pipe and it sounds great in my opinion, and no drone even loaded down with 5k lbs in tow.

Make sure the clamps are tight and the hangers aren't touching the frame. I had an incessant vibration that ran through my truck around at peak resonance (1,800-2,000 RPM).

Turns out my installer did a sh*tty job and the rear-most tailpipe hanger was touching the frame intermittently (it's really tight back there, only a few mm of clearance). I put a rubber exhaust isolator (universal) on the exhaust hanger so it wouldn't vibrate metal to metal, tightened up the clamps and the resonance and vibrations that went through the entire interior have disappeared. I'm considering grinding off the last cm of the tailpipe hanger as it's plenty long as it is. Worth a look, cheap, quick, and easy.

Then again, the DT catback aren't for everyone, to each his own! :)

Mine had it, remember for $500 you aren't getting a full exhaust, just a cat-back system. But for the price, it's managable:meh:

You can probably do some mods to eliminate the drone, here is a good thread on the drone
