My front doors are sagging quite a bit now, and from the looks of it the hinge pin bushings are worn, which is throwing off the alignment of the doors. Initially I thought the hinges just came out of adjustment, but I'm thinking before I mess with adjusting anything I'll try to replace the hinge pin bushings (and if necessary the pins themselves) and see where that gets me. anyone done this before? They look like they'll be an asspain to get to, so any tricks to make the job a bit easier?

Had to make my own bushings etc for my aging nissan patrol. I have a minilathe, so making the bushings was pretty easy. Removed the old pins (ground off the heads to remove - kinda like big rivets) and then replaced with bolt/nyloc. I machined the bushings to fit the diameter of the bolts I used.

Maybe for the 60 you can find something off the shelf.

cheers,

I might see if I can go that route. I just found out that you have to order complete new hinge assemblies, so rebuilding them on the cheap (with factory parts anyway) isn't an option for me.

bummer.....

I had the same problem. While I had the fender on the drivers side off to fix a leak, I replaced both drivers door hinges. I changed them one at a time and only had to do a minor adjustment. It was very easy with the fender off. The FSM recommends an SST if you try to replace them with the fender on. The hinges are $30 + from Toyota (before I knew about Cruiser Dan). I was tempted to buy used ones, but the fender takes a couple of hours to get off, so I opted for new ones so I never have to take the fender off again. If you do take the fender off, be sure and clean out the crud from the cavity below the front window, and seal all the seams with rubber seam sealer (not silicone sealant). You will most likely discover as I did that the old seam sealer is dried out and leaking.

Yeah I've got no desire to pull the fenders off, but I'm able to jockey around a U-joint type socket so I can get to the bolts. I'll just get to go the new hinge route and replace all the front ones.

door adjustment

My driver's door is also out of adjustment, to the point that it's pushing on the top part of the window frame, causing it not to seal well which I can hear driving down the highway.
Any have any luck adjusting the door without the special tool or taking off the fender?

Spook, how did you make out with adjusting the doors, were you able to do it?

I've heard that the hinges of a similiar era Tercel will fit...

i bet there are a few OEM choices... van, wagon, trucks... What stinks around here is the redneck yards always send the "jap" cars to the crusher first. It's hard to find a toyota that was wrecked 20 years ago. :frown:

door adjustment

I might just end up buying new hinges if I have to but right now I would like to try to adjust it first to make it work for winter. Any one have any luck adjusting the doors without the special tool or taking the fenders off?
