just installed a set {front} of doetsch pre runner 8000 shocks#8420 17.50 compressed 31.00 extended. on my 91 fj80 slee 6" lift, and they are the best so far i have run. they have great ride and control, better then the ome'L and alot better than the pro comp 9000. with both the pro comp and ome, needed to by shock extenders[ 2 on each side]for my app, to get the travel in the middle. with the doetsch they fit perfect ride great handle even better, also come with bump stop and the best part is the price $45.00 each, just ordered a set for the rear today. also they should have the right length for most lifts.

Where are they from? Looks like there were some issues with Doetsch Tech customer service a few years ago on the Yota Tech forum.

I have run the same brand of shocks for years on my 85 Hilux, great shocks! The Company is from San Diego, I ordered my last pair direct since Downey Off road went out of business.

It looks like each set is custom. How do they figure the shock travel from their order form? They ask for this...
What is the lift or lowered measurement even if it is stock? Front_____ Rear_____

What information did you give them?

just go to there website to order http://doetsch-shocks.com/ . the quality of the shock is good, when i orderd mine they where going to send a shock that had less travel and i told them it was to short, so they sent the longer ones. this will tell you shock specs. http://doetsch-shocks.com/37.asp

i think the best way to order is to call them, as there web site does not alow you to order the shock you choose, just the vehicle. they called to conferm my order the day after i placed it, not bad service in my book, that is when i told them to send the longer shocks. the rear set i ordered today i just put in the order form where it says lift the shock # i wanted, we will se if they understand what i ment.

I should have went this route. Did the pro comps and they are really soft. You got the p/ns for the back?

#8421 is the shocks i ordered for the back. 13.5" travel shock. i have not got the back shocks yet, they should be here on monday.

interesting. so theyre a bit firmer than the pro comps? how are they compared to the L's? ive got some taller springs here that id like to put in, but want some decent shocks to run. was thinking the procomps, but if people are getting better results from these and no adapters needed up front...probably a better option. definitely post up some pics once they;re all installed...

nice find!

when i got my 80 it came with ome'l shocks they were to firm for me, the pro comp are way soft, ride ok, but handle like****, lots of body role. the pre runner doetsch ride better than both and hande as good as the L's did, on my rig. i will take some pics when i get the rear shocks installed.

snapped some pics of front shocks

hard to tell from pics but the doetsch shocks have larger rod, and shock body. just took for test drive, with all doetsch 8000, ride great, handle great, i like them way better than the pro comp 9000, and little better than the ome'L. at half the price of ome'L and the right length for 6" lift ,will give them 2 thumbs up.

same shocks with just spring spacers?

I was wondering if these would work if I was only running 1 1/2”-2” lift blocks with stock springs. I am looking to get a little extra height but am a little short on cash right now. I would be looking to go up a total of about 4” with springs in the future, and if I could get these and have them no as is, and then also when I upgrade the springs that would be great. If these are too big do you have the part # for the ones they originally tried to send you? Those might be just what I am looking for. Thanks a bunch.

this is what i would run with 4" lift, they should work ok for you until you go 4", they will just have less usable travel until lift is installed. these shocks have 12 1/2" travel. just make shure that bumpstop is adjusted so shock will not over compress. the built in bompstop on shock will help that, but if you go offroading before 4" lift installed you could damage shock if over compressed.
#8385 front
#8386 rear

I've been running these shocks for a while now. I'm running #8421 front and back. So far they been great. Love the long travel. Really maximizes the 6 inch lift. Plenty of travel.

Correct 8421's up front with adapters on bottom.

If you put shocks that long on w/ that little lift they will be too long, you'll be rididng on the bottom of the shock. He's got 6" of lift, that's a big difference.
