Reason I am asking, is that I currently have a factory receiver hitch installed, but it hangs pretty low. I was dragging it this week in Moab. i saw a cruiser go by with a 2" receiver bolted to the rear cross member bolt holes. I need a hitch to hang the bike carrier on, but I don't tow anything with it other than a utility trailer every now and then.

Thanks,,,

I have the Pintle style with the detachable ball so you can swap them depending on your needs. I think my :princess: bought mine online for me last x-mas

Most of the hitches that fit an fj40 will also bolt up directly to the 80. I'm using an fj40 hitch on mine. That said, my hitch is flexy and not for big loads. Biggest thing I tow with mine is a tin boat.

The pintle will also work, but is useless for a bike rack.

The Slee SOF1038 is "not rated for towing" but it is pretty durn stout. I have used one for a decade and I would not hesitate to haul 3000 pounds off pavement, but that is in combination with my heavy steel Slee bumper.. Just be sure to use Grade 8 hardware. I upsized to fill the two unthreaded frame holes better.

I don't know the 1059, but it sure tucks away nicely.

Thanks for the info. I will likely get the slee as part of my upgrade plan....

Same style on my truck, but you can find them for $80 or less online through landcruiser specialty shops in USA.

I got mine from JT Outfitters. Looks similar. But rest assured that it feels quite flexy on my truck.

The Slee one looks more sturdy, although I haven't checked it out in person. If I didn't already have the JT one I would have purchased a Slee one.

The 1038 doesn't look like you would gain any clearance over the typically LC mounted receiver, the 1059 does look great if you have the Slee rear bumper, but useless if you want to mount to the pintle holes in the rear cross member.

I unbolt mine when I go wheeling. Takes 5 minutes with hand tools. Not the case with the bigger frame mounted receiver hitches

Not if you are willing to cut a hole in your bumper. Can't beat the clearance either. Not to mention it has got to be way stronger than the other one, IMO. Excuse the bolts, I need to replace with stainless..........

That is the way I would want to mount that receiver if I was going to remove my receiver. What do you tow with it, how much weight?
Any concern that the metal removed has weekend the capacity of the cross member and reduced it's load carrying capacity?
Agreed on the bolts, those be ugly.:p

Jet skis, jon boat, utility trailer full of junk to the dump. That kind of stuff. Maybe 2000lbs.

The hitch comes with traingulated reinforcement for under the truck. I would say it is plenty strong for anything someone would want to tow with an 80 series.

I disagree - it sits higher, just a little. I have never had any problems dragging it, but I rarely am in rocks. Here iit is with 3 inches of lift and 33s, testing my trailer in an ORV park:

But as another Mudder mentioned, it is easy to remove if clearance becomes a problem when rock crawling.

What size bolts go in these? Does the Slee unit come with bolts? Doesn't look like it. Took a rusty Uhaul receiver off and found that it had started to rust my bumper......I was . No funds for a new bumper but need to use my bike rack. Prolly go with the Slee but need to find out what bolts to use.

Look closely at johns picture above, now what do you see that's missing? Hooks for the safety chain.
