Felpro - Felpro - Felpro

Double up and use Hi-temp permatex orange if you suspect warping. Hi-temp anti-seize on bolts/nuts and you're golden for next time.

Also, I can't find it now, but there's a thread where someone list a "thick" gasket that's made to crush for this application... Anybody ?

Thanks Norris! That looks like some hard learned lessons - appreciate the tips.

I have the FSM, so should be able to do this, but always appreciate some input/tips like this. If anyone did do a photo documentation of this -:cheers:!

I'm at work, so a bit of cyber wrenching/planning going on... hehehe.

I'm driving my 87 while the new 85 is getting it's H55f transplant..:D

unfortunately the 85 has a pretty horrible leak and running not so great.

So this is needed (and taking care of p/s leak while at it).

thanks as always guys!

SS - thanks!

wow - 60$? I didn't expect it to be that much... Are these the felpro or remflex brand? I'm not thinking i'd double a 60$ gasket...

Anyone used this and good results?

thx!

No, the Remflex is already double thickness - Only use a single gasket.... You'd have to double the felpros, if you went that way... But 60 bux isn't too bad when you realize you'd spend $26 each for the felpro... or $52, and that's from Rock Auto.

Remflex looks like a v. good alternative. Next time I do mine, that's what I'm going to use.

I haven't used the Remflex before, I just followed some links and read the lit on their website. Sounds good to me...

The Felpro you should be able to get anywhere. Napa-kragen- anywhere. But be wary of price. I've seen 'em some places $40 !! Makes the Remflex looks much better.

Start a new thread on people's experiences with the Remflex. I'd be curious to know, too.

It's not "hard", but be prepared for setbacks like possible broken bolts, missing pieces...

It happens on 25 year old trucks (even on 25 y.o. men!) ... You'll go A LONG WAY to saving yourself grief (and spare the neighbors an across-the-fence lession in fluent cursing) by spraying every stinking bolt - nut- any threaded thing that has to come apart with PB Blaster or Aerokroil (the best) a FEW DAYS (3x per day) before you tear into it.

You can do it. FSM is your Bible, pray to it.

Have problems, post with pix.

Good luck

Wear a Halo when done... :D

and to respond more to your info... :)

I had the exhaust gasket done about 2 yrs ago, so hoping nothing is too rusted up. Now going to do it myself and see how hard it is. I'm slow, but methodical (or can be!).

thanks for the tips guys!

Pics & steps?

Anyone get ambitious enough to take pics of their tear down and rebuild?

I would love to see it.

Clip carb spacer?

What do you mean by this?

I also clipped on the carb spacer heat shield. This will make future torqueing MUCH MUCH easier.

Its that heat shield thing. Its made from that phenolic plastic stuff. I just trimmed it all off so that just the spacer was left. Makes life easier.

Meant to ask you - with that heat shield removed (and carb fan working ), you haven't had any vapor lock issues, or notice any difference ?

Never. Runs and starts like a dream now. It starts up quicker then the LX now, every time.

If you have a non-functioning carb fan however, you will have hard warm starts.
