So, do you like the new FJ Cruiser? (don't really need alot of replies in here, the 18,000 other posts kinda tell us what people think, just looking for a percentage of people that like/hate it).

Like I said in a previous post that it would resemble the FJ70 Bundera (running gear except for the IFS and body work) It will basically be a cool looking truck with a dependable, tough, proven running gear and a huge potential for tweaking it such as Marlin Crawler stuff, ARB, Old man emu, etc. Kudos to Toyota for at least trying to satisfy wheelers!

As usual this isn't a move by Toyota for enthsiasts, it's them carving a nich'e into a sucessful market AFTER it's been proven sucessful.

While I'm excited about them actually pushing forward and producing the FJ Cruiser, I can't help but think they could have included this in the Scion lineup for 2007 under a different name and none of us would give a s***

And what's up with that CORNY introduction at the auto show (see video)?! I had to walk away from the computer until they showed the truck because I couldn't stand it anymore!

I think I'm more disappointed at Toyotas overall effort than anything else.

We saw virtually this same vehicle 2 years ago. They changed almost nothing about it and still aren;t ready to produce it until 2007. IMHO what they did change didn't really make a difference in its overall appeal or function.

Thanks to Toyota for not even trying to create a removeable top!! And the gay left hand swing rear hatch. If I'm right this vehicle is designed for the U.S. and we drive on the right side of the road. Wouldn't it make more sense to swing to the right?

The Toyota website also blows, in one area they have done their own version of photochopping or so it appears. The newly designed FJ (version 2) is still wearing the "moonboots (tires and 20's) from 2003 show". WTF: It seems to me that they weren't very concerned about really putting together a complete package for presentation to the public. If those in charge of design after the 2003 show and the advertisers worked for me, I'd fire every last one of them for s***ty effort.

That tells me it may not even make it to market unless the reaction to it is strong. If they were focused on a new area of the market you'd think they'd try a little harder across the board.

The truck, I like the idea and theoretical functionality but I'm disappointed at their effort to change, ask the public's ideas, and implement a good product with at least a decent introduction.

Actually, the left hinged rear hatch works great in the states... an example: since you are in a grocery getter you pull up to the curb to pick up your groceries. Now instead of the bagger boy having to take your cart into the middle of the street to open the tail gate and load groceries he can stay safely on the curb and open the gate to load the goods.

In all seriousness I'd much rather have the hinge on the left than on the right.

I still would buy one to replace my runner but I wouldn't be as excited about it.

The truck (it is still a truck, right?) gets an A-
Toyota Development however gets an F- for their efforts.

It's a long way from perfect, but after seeing shockers photochop, I could learn to like it. I'm just wondering if we should hope that Toyota sells 100k units a year. If it did, wouldn't Toyota be more inclined to experiment with diesel options? There's only a finite amount of old 40's around, and there will come a time in the future that a 40 is just too valuable/rare to tear up on the trails. This fugly FJ cruiser looks like it could be a really good platform to base future trail rigs on.

Considering aftermarket support for Tacomas and Runners is ten times that for 40 series - what's not to like. Sure it could have been a hardcore wheeler but who really uses one of those, Toyota has to have broad market appeal and that usually means the purists and enthusiasts and collectors (5% of the marketplace at most) loose out. Deal with it.

Look at all the work Slee has done to make the Lexi and 100s suitable trail vehicles, try taking any of those series vehicles out of the showroom and over the Rubicon or almost any moderate trail and see what happens. Bone stock this thing probably goes more places than a bone stock 100 or 470 when the going gets tight, add enough accessories to one of the FJ Cruisers until the price matches a Lexus and I will bet the farm that it walks all over the wagons.

All this boils down to comparing apples to oranges at this point, by the time one of these hits the market and then gets a few mods and is taken to Cruise Moab - it will be the talk of the town all over again about how capable it actually is and who'd have ever thought it could work, blah, blah, blah.

Oh and I agree with Doug, subpar effort by Toyota on this project, what's up with that? Like they're fishing the market for interest and don't wanna throw much money at it till they're sure. I bet it doesn't get built unless there's a huge demand, but a two year wait will kill that hope.

I asked a good friend of mine who's my off-roading buddy (Chevy 4X4 owning outside opinion, but he likes Cruisers ) of what he thought and he said, quote unquote, "Looks like poop". Let's hope the rest of the public feels that way about it.

I also agree with doug. Could not have said it any better myself. I feel ripped off. They just dropped the ball on this thing. Do the whole unveiling like there was something to unveil. I almost want to go to Chi-town just so I can walk to the thing and be like "roof rack, full spare tire....luckie" Then ask the guy in all seriousness "what is this thing? An FJ, isn't that one of those older toyota's? Doesn't have a removable top, isn't it shaped like a box, straight lines and an inline six. Yeah, I think I may have seen one once or twice. Hell even looked at buying one. Than saw this was coming out so I thought maybe it would be "better" (make quotes with my hands) I guess I will have to call the guy back and see if he still has the FJ."

I think I would just feel better. Or I could just go up to the guy and kick him in the nuts and tell him that is how I felt at 9:15 2/9.
