I'm very familiar with having parts left over after taking something apart. After disassembling my entire truck these could go anywhere. Its a 10/75 FJ40. I'm thinking maybe the fuel tank? They seem to be made of copper.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.

Rag joint fasteners...

Yep, steering component. It goes on the end of your steering shaft to the rag joint, just above the steering box. I'm sure someone has a pic.

absolutley amazing! some one post a pic of 2 bolts with some locking tabs and......bam! nine minutes later some one identifies them, and another even posted a diagram of them and placement!

It may have been evident when you tried to turn? : )

I agree, the knowledge base here is without limits. Thanks everyone.

I did think the steering was a bit loose:steer:. lol..

Now that I recall I had put two standard bolts in there when I set my firewall back on the frame, I didnt remember any special fasteners in the rag joint. Thanks again.

Don't forget the jumper wire from bolt to bolt to ground the column to the box. That's what the copper pieces are for, to provide a good connection. This supplies your horn with a ground.

Poser continues to amaze me with his vast knowledge of all things Cruiser.

Mark, so if I am using my modified shaft and the horn only works at certain points when I turn the wheel, what is the best way to ground it so my horn will keep a good ground?

For reference, here is a pic of the horn ground wire that is part of the rag joint on later model Cruisers. This wire grounds the steering column through the steering box.

If your horn works intermittently it could be a ground issue or a bad connection in the horm mechanism.

Mark, if I no longer have a rag joint, what should I do?

Since I don't have a 73 column to take apart I'm not sure if it has the spring loaded brush that rides on a contact ring? It it does then take the steering wheel off and clean the brush and the contact ring. If that does not cure it then some how you have to provide the column with a good ground...

See here for the complete write-up:

I think I might have lost the little contact spring when doing my steering. I will have ot pull the wheel to check.
