Do Denso TPMS transmitters need to be activated/turned on? (1 Viewer)

Just got back from the service station. Even more confused than before I went. I know for a fact that my front passenger sensor is the one sensor my car could read. Verified by codes entered and “data list” in tech stream. I even changed the pressure in the tire to verify tech stream updated. The tech used his sensor reader on the truck at each tire location, and of the 4 mounted sensors, his scanner could pick up all but the front passenger sensor (the one tech stream shows is working). Is there any chance that once the car has connected to the sensor that the sensor reader tool stops recognizing the sensor, perhaps to keep techs from accidentally duplicating sensors?

I hooked up tech stream and it’s still showing the one sensor working. Tried clearing the DTC, but that didn’t help.
No, the sensor reader is looking for a different frequency or firmware, and apparently your others are producing it.

With all the markings being the same, this is confusing indeed.

Also, I was looking at his machine. He had selected 2010-2016 (maybe 2014) LX... mine is a 07/10 build date in the door jam. But like you said, with parts all being same, why would they be broadcasting differently. And why would his machine be looking for whatever the ones my truck can’t see? The service station wants $80/each installed for their universal sensors, and the eBay seller said theyd take the ones I ordered back, although of course I don’t have the packaging, so who knows how that will go. Maybe I’ll take my OEM spare down there and ask them to pull the sensor to get another data point.. Don’t understand why this has to be rocket science..

The only number on my non working sensors compared to the working one is the one above the sensor ID. The 4 pack of sensors all have the same number and my single has a different Nunber. Anyone know what that number represents?

Buy 4 more amazon and return the ebays in those boxes?

3 of mine posted above had the same number above the ID, but one was different. And yet they all ended up working.

Maybe worth trying to contact Pacific/Denso to see what that number means and whether it is relevant? I was of the understanding as long as you got the PMV-C11A matched up they should work.

FWIW, if you are concerned about fakes look very very carefully at the printing. There can be tell-tell signs such as the letter spacing or font. It may be just one thing but it is enough - and it does not matter if from eBay or Amazon. Fakes galore on both.

So I think I’m going to order 4 new Amazon Denso sensors and stick them in a pressurized tank and make sure the truck can see them before I have them installed, if it can’t then I’ll return those and let my local service station add the expensive universals they like to use And be done with it. I may stop at the service station and see if they will put their scanner on it again and read the IDs of the sensors it can see that my truck can’t and verify they are the matching IDs on the sensor labels. I assume they will be, but just in case.

How expensive are the universals? OE can be had for about $60 each, and would retain the original quality. My understanding with the universals was they were largely all Chinese made junk with typically high failure rates.

So they had Autel and another brand. He basically felt like the Autel were the junk and that the other model he used were as good as anything else. He was going to charge $80 each installed.. so about the same as OE.

So big plot twist. I went back to the station this morning and had them use their tool to scan the sensor codes (it was a little Snap on tool) to verify they matched the labels on my sensors. Of course they did not match (they all had the same 1st four digits with each other and varied last 3, so clearly were manufactured close to each other). I entered the 4 read codes and within 30 seconds the light cleared and my truck was reading pressures.
So my summarization is one of 2 things happened.

A. My eBay sensors are fake but worked and just didn’t broadcast the code on the label.
B. The guy who mounted my tires didn’t mount my eBay sensors and used something off the service centers stock.

Regardless of above, the snap on tool must have a way of sensing if the pressure monitor has “made the handshake” with the TPMS system in the vehicle. Because again this morning, the one sensor that was working on my truck, his scanner wouldn’t retrieve a code.

So I don’t know if this provided more questions than answers, but my light is off now, so whatevs. Hopefully they at least last until I’m ready to change tires.

I bought 4 Denso sensors from Summit Racing for $36 each a couple of years ago and they work perfectly with my 2013 LC. I think their part number was DNP-550-0103.

This is a solid option. If The potential of amazon fakes is a concern, ordering the denso’s from summit or rock auto would buy some peace of mind. With that said, So far all of my densos (9 sensors) from amazon have been legit and were a piece of cake to program with the carista app.

The one I ordered from Amazon worked as advertised. I’m almost leaning more towards the idea that the shop didn’t install the sensors I brought them from eBay. I mean if I got fake Denso sensors from eBay that are good enough fakes that they work, but then don’t match the IDs on the case, I just don’t know who would go through that trouble for $120...Maybe they are cheap sensors shoved into reused Denso cases, and the sellers just hope anyone doing the install planned to use a scanner to import the IDs, so would never bother looking at the IDs on the sensors themselves..

It was a Big O tire shop in Boise, Idaho.
Thanks...I'm thinking the OEM senders are dead after 8 to 9 years. Both Toyota in Nampa and Toyota/Lexus in Boise wanted ~ $125 per sender, and I'm looking at 5. Found Denso oem equivalents on line. I'll head for Big O when the senders get here tomorrow.

Was it the store on Fairview??

I know you got yours, but they are way cheaper from the discount sites.

For a 2013 cruiser: $61

bloc, thanks for the info. I saved the url for possible parts in the future. Not sure if I posted it before but the Denso's I found on Amazon were $25 or so each. If they can't be activated, they'll be returned for credit and I'll go to your link.

For oem $125 each I'll leave the yellow light on. :bang:

It is the store on Broadway. They do all my tire work, and I have 6 rigs including a race car, so there is quite a lot.
