Sorry I haven’t been updating recently. The truck is very close to driving. I’ll try to update very soon’

You have my attention :grinpimp:

Sorry I haven’t been really active recently, life has just had me super busy. The Lexus IS running now and almost driving. I’m encountering some issues with the trans. Being I’m not using a gm tcase, I don’t have a vss signal. Without this signal the trans goes into limp mode.

does anyone know what the pulse per mile output is on a 96 fzj80?

What the vss looks like. Thanks

Here is a picture of the truck in its current state. Needs to be buffed, and finish a few things...getting close!

Hi, Just wondering how the Allison/Blackbox/TCase worked out?

Amazing build and skills man!

How does the trans/BB/Tcase line up compared to the original setup? Did you have to shorten/lengthen the drive shafts? Size wise, how does the A1000 compare to the A343 ?

Thanks,
dg

Been having a few issues. I’d honestly recommend going with another engine/trans setup. The black box just complicates matters with needing a pump and a cooler.
Have you seen this video. Looks like you're running into the same issues.
Skid Factory Duramax build

Very interested in an update. I recently found an Aussie builder that was putting the Duramax/Allison combination in the 100 series. Might be worth contacting them to ask about a VSS signal solution?

Sorry I’ve been so busy recently, I haven’t had time to work on this truck in a few months.

However I think I’ve finally found a solution for the vss sensor. I’m going to install a vss tone ring on the output shaft of the Allison. This basically allows the trans to run and shift as normal. It doesn’t know there is a doubler/tcase behind it. That’s what my issue is now. It’s seeing such a large difference in speed from the vss vs what the trans is actually turning.

So I’m hoping to start back up on this rig next month. Trying to juggle clearing land, getting plans for my house and shop going…life has been busy. I will show some goodies I purchased though!

s*** I guess I better give some type of a update. Life seems to move a lot faster this time of the year. Daylight hours are shorter, and then trying to prepare for holidays cuts into even more time…and cruiser monies!!

So today I finished up alittle project ive been working on. Had a huge issue with my air intake setup. It basically was a huge restriction, causing the engine to run very rich and have high egts. So yesterday and today I put together a 5” snorkel. This is only part of my plan to fix the restriction, but a good place to start. I’m going to be building a custom air box setup, with a high flow dmax specific filter, larger intake running to the engine, and then also upgrade from 2.5” to 3” charge pipes. The combination of all this I think should allow this 403 cubic inch monster to breath.

I’m waiting on Black Friday to come around, have a big shopping list of some stuff I’ve been waiting on to buy. Going to try and pickup a set of 37’s, and some new beadlock wheels. Also going to get a new shifter setup..maybe a few other goodies. Unfortunately the truck right now looks like more of a storage unit then anything. It’s got boxes of new parts just stacked to the roof. Don’t know how many thousand of dollars in parts I have just sitting. I have 4runner brake upgrade, hellfire knuckles, high steer kit, aluminum radiator, custom oil pan, oil coolers….list goes on haha. I do plan on getting this thing back on the road for good in about a month or two.

Question. Should I try to rebuild that dmax and Allison now, or should I just throw it all back in there and just rebuild it later?

I know how the “while I’m in there” can get out of hand quickly. A duramax/Allison rebuild is about $10000 if you do it right. I don’t know if I have the budget for that right now. I did recently snag another lbz to either rebuild on the side or I might just keep it around for parts!

Anyways I’ll keep you guys updated, sorry for the long post…not my usual style!

It really doesn’t look terrible. I thought it was going to be way too large, but the 80 is already I big vehicle as is. I like it….

And the lbz I just got. I bought a complete wrecked truck for $1000. I then sold the body and frame for $1000 and basically got a free lbz out the deal.

Throw it back in and rebuild it later!!!! I love this build

Than

Thanks man! That’s most likely what going to happen. It’s too close to Christmas to be rebuilding everything. The current lbz does have 270k miles on it though haha! So a rebuild will definitely be in the works!
Not really. I’ve had multiples with over 500k on them. Those engines were designed to run a while.

Ohh for sure. I’ve seen them on the groups before with 750k-1mil. I think it definitely needs a set of injectors soon. The balance rates are decent but not the best. She smokes a bit too, not much but just enough to piss me off haha. I think for me it’s just a piece of mind thing. Know it will be good to go for another 250k

1. Nice work, as usual
2. can you post a pic looking directly at the front and a pic directly at the side? Been thinking about a tube style snorkel like this for a while and have always thought a usable size would look waaaay wrong, but your work here makes me think otherwise. Would be nice to see other angles.
3. RUN IT, rebuild the one on the ground.

Thanks man, means a lot coming from you! I have actually been wanting to buy a set of your adjustable bump stops. Last time I checked they were out of stock, let me know when you get some in.

And I can get more pictures when I get home. My fab skills are not the best. Mating 5” tube can be tricky to get it seamless. I have it tucked into the fender a pretty good bit.

And post some videos for pete's sake! You've got spectators, man! :bounce:
Haha I need to make some. I guess I’ve been waiting to get it finished before I post videos up. There has been a lot of trial and error with this swap. Still some things I need to work out, but I’m getting close!

Here are you pictures you requested. Naturally with running such a large snorkel you will need to custom fab a air box, which will be the next step.

Last picture just give you an idea of how I want to do the air box. The feed from the snorke will come in the side of the box, and then the intake will run out the back into the turbo.
