For the machinists/welders out there:

How viable would it be to replicate method’s Bead Grip feature by:

=> Welding a bead around the wheel (aluminum or steel).
=> Then turning down the grooves and inner hump on a lathe?

Method Wheel MR701 Bead Grip - 17x7.5 Method MR701 Bead Grip - 5x4.5 5.5BS - MATTE BLACK

Both of those steps seem straightforward enough to me but I'm no fabricator.

This idea mainly came from me wanting to run a tall/skinny tire, but Method doesn't make a 7" wide Bead Grip wheel.

Very much possible.

Though you would have to be good enough at welding to make a nice bead consistent around the rim, and also know someone with a lathe big enough to turn it down and is willing to take on the job.

Likely would cost you more to do yourself (including the price of standard rims) than a set of beadgrips cost.
