Beno .. did you get any notice about those parts that going to be discontuned before it happens ?

My idea ..

Having that list or early advice .. you could buy ( order ) those before .. if it's a real important part that you plan to replace but aren't decided to do it yet ..

Nope. One day they are there, the next they are not. No information from Toyota at all.

Don't panic!
Some of us have been driving around in LandCruisers for a very long time without much in the way of factory, or even aftermarket, support.
You don't see a lot of 55s abandoned on the side of the road because their radiators are leaky.
It used to be perfectly normal to have a radiator repaired, and it is still possible today. Everything in a 60s radiator is repairable or replaceable, just like in a 55 or 40 series radiator. I'd like to think that one reason we drive a LandCruiser is because we rebel against the use-once-and-discard mentality that madison Ave. tries to sell us.
I've gone off on my radiator rant before, when someone whines about not being able to get a NIB OEM replacement overnight. It's simple:
1) Find the best radiator shop in your town. Look in the yellow pages. The radiator guy you want does not know how to work the interweb. The shop you want has been there at least 50 years and is probably made of brick. You need to talk to the oldest guy there.
B) Talk to the guy and hand him your radiator.
III) wait a day. It'll be painted black and the paint will still be tacky.
Installation is the exact opposite of removal. There's no brackets to make or modify. It's still your radiator and fits perfectly, just like when you took it out. You choose your core, the top and bottom caps are soldered perfectly, it's like brand new or better. If there's any problem, you have a local guy to talk to.

Add to the list of discontinued parts:
81-87 2F cyl head
79-87 2F int/exh manifold assembly
87-earlier electronic distributors
all vacuum advance canisters for dissys
all carburetors

If long term parts availability is desired, then it's necessary to step up to BMW or Daimler/benz/steyr/puch. But they don't make a Land Cruiser.

Toyota N/A is a s*** show.. 70 series body parts are being discontinued and these were trucks that up until only a few years ago were still being made in mass quantities for all over the world...

They just want you to buy some new POS....

CSF radiators are pretty good. Unfortunately, they discontinued the FJ60 specific rad and now only have one unit for both 60/62, so you lose a small amt of core to the tranny cooler.

The day will come when we're all running SBCs or diesels in our 60s ... :frown:

Or 1FZ's

:)

The new shortblock is going into the 80.

My old one is going to be rebuilt in the future to be put into the 60 when the 2F dies....

So we're safe then, 2Fs never die. :) But I suppose if you remove a few main bearings from the 1FZ, the 60 won't reject it.

Anyone tried one of these?: 1981-1990 Toyota Land Cruiser 3 Row Aluminum Radiator | eBay

I have a slow leak and fear the worst. They look like the aluminum that MAF sells, but at 1/3 the cost I question the quality.

I think in a previous thread it was concluded that this is the same manufacturer of the units MAF sells. Seems like a good deal to me. I don't think you're going to find anything that isn't made in China, so it's time to get over that since there really is no choice in the matter.

Pighead nailed it, the radiator in my 75 FJ40 was re-built in the 80's by A-1 Radiator here in Reno (Slogan: The best place in town to take a leak.)

The PO of my FJ60 took his to a different shop but the same deal. (I have all the receipts for all the work done on my FJ60 since it was new from the PO.)

In nearly 40 years of driving dilapidated cars and trucks I don't think I've ever bought a new radiator.

If you do somehow manage to destroy a radiator beyond repair a Chevy straight 6 radiator should be a drop in replacement. (Available at a Pick and Pull near you.)

Cheap bastid!

I'm on my 4th engine, never bought a new one. Just lots of new pieces for the old blocks (NOT cheap)...sorta like radiators.
