@cruiserinsanity and I were changed out the u-joints on the '85 FJ60 this afternoon and we noticed that in the inner surface of one of the yoke ears was dimpled. The dimpling was irregularly space but throughout the inner face. One of the caps was spinning as were we trying to remove the c-clip and I'm thinking that it was this particular ear but we were intent on knocking out the u-joints and did not notice the dimpling until we were installing the new joints.

That is a peculiar one. No clue whatsoever. :beer: ✌️
 
old timer told me they called it "tiger toothing" he used a sharp center point punch to do it.
it reduced the diameter of the hole, so the new race or whatever would lock in place and not rotate

I've resorted to doing it a few times thru the years to get things running out in the field
 
A temporary fix. If it's a flange yoke, relatively cheap and easy to replace. If it's on the propeller shaft, more painful.
