Hi all.
Just wondering if any of you gurus could tell me what the difference is between the 2 oil filters available for the 2UZ?
There is the Toyota Genuine Market Value Priced Part and a Denso part Listed. They are both made in Thailand.
Is there a difference between them in quality? Is the Toyota Genuine Market Value Priced Part just an affordable option? Is Denso a better filter at almost 3 times the cost?
Part numbers are;
Toyota Genuine Market Value Priced Part; 90915-YZZD4 ($5.30)
Denso; 90915-20004 ($14.20)
Thanks
Eric

if these are the only two options select the toyota oem, only for the better materials used in the adbv (silicone in the toyota part is preferred).

That being said, if you are looking for a better performing filter i'd go prefer one with a higher filtration efficiency at <25 microns with a silicon adbv.

Ok... thank you.

So the "Market Value Price Part" is just that... similar to the aftermarket items like Ryco and the like... The Denso item would be the preferable item with higher quality... and the price reflects that. 👍

The cheaper item comes up as a "replacement" part number and as a "substitution" item also.
My last oil change, I got a filter from my local dealer... and they gave me a cheaper item.

I might have conveyed the wrong message with my wording sorry. The denso oil filter and toyota market value parts are basically the same in terms of filtration efficiency (toyota does not favor filtration as much) and preference for holding capacity and flow, except the adbv is usually better quality with the toyota part. You want a silicone adbv that remains pliable rather then rubber. Typically all toyota filters have silicone adbv while denso varies between products.

Denso being more expensive does not mean much better quality. Hence I would still pick the toyota part over the denso.

That being said, I would look at some other filters locally who publish what their filter can filter (%), at what particle size (micron), and how they are they testing said filters (iso or sae testing number). These small details matter if you plan to extend oci, run in a severe driving conditions, run on diesel etc. If you are running petrol, regular ocis, any ole filter is probably sufficient.

Lastly the best oil filter is a sealed properly working air filter and intake system.

Not sure why you would go with anything else than the OEM oil filter. Especially if you are replacing your oil at 5K intervals which is most important and using good oil. I use the OEM filter @excessive mentions above, with Kirkland Full Synthetic Oil and change at 5k.

BTW the OEM filter is on good deals when you buy them in bulk. You save a $1 a filter..IIRC.

Cut them open and compare -

I “think” the Japanese made 90915-20004 oil filter was original. Then along came the Thailand made m, replacement YZZ filter. Much cheaper. Then along came the Thai made 90915-20004. With the untrained eye, the two Thai filters look similar internally.
