$450 in labor is pretty much on par for differential set-up.

What was the issue with the Koyo bearings you provided him, Ash?
Found the pics from our text exchanges.
Bearings I bought from Zuk.

His pinion bearing
The Gear polishing is interesting, I was not aware of it. I guess I will have to baby my gears for 500. There is certainly some piece mind in knowing it is set up by someone who knows what they are doing.
I tried my hand at installing an Eaton in one of my diffs that had the pinion set already. I went through a fair amount of trial and error but think I have a good set up now.
I will be interested to hear what you think of 4.56 gears.
What did they charge you for labor? I need to swap the gears in my 3.56 elocker 3rd over to the 4.30 currently in my rig. I have most/all parts, my current gears are probably fine so I can reuse them.My cost at U-Joints was less.
FI is so awesome at altitude. I miss it.I've always had 4.56s but Zuk didn't like my paint pattern on the old set so I ordered a new set then shipped it to him. 4.56 + 35s+ turbo is the perfect combo IMHO. 4.56 + 35s + no turbo isn't ideal for our elevation.
Good to hear the 4.56 gears work well with that combination. I had read others didn’t think there was enough gain for that gear size considering the cost of setup. I was just curious.
Like you said setting the carrier in with the pinion already set was pretty easy. It is already done. The gear pattern looked good, so it should work well.
Came across this thread while browsing threads returned from a search. I purchased gears and install kits (including bearings) from Sierra over a decade ago and had Zuk install them. A few years later they grenaded and Zuk traced the failure back to the (incorrect) pinion bearings. He was very apologetic that he had installed the bearings that I provided without making sure they were correct, and took responsibility. Turns out those suffixes actually mean things, who knew? Anyway, apparently he learned from that mistake. I don't know if Sierra did, but apparently not. Maybe they weren't notified. His pinion bearings are also Koyo and have identical p/ns as mine but his included additional an suffix at the end. He bought his from Japan and I have no idea where Sierra Gears buy their bearings from. I surmised this suffix to mean additional taper of the rollers. I learned that typical set of pinion bearing experience a craptastic amount of forces from the driveshafts and more taper is MO BETTAI bought his carrier bearings too, while I was at it! I'll see if I can upload a pic of this comparo he texted me in the beginning.
