I have had very few issues with my ARB. I drive the truck everyday and still no issue. The truck is now on 37's I ran part of Fordyce till the front driveshaft exploded and the entire Rubicon in my Taco no issues. I have had the locker in for a few years now. Run it winter wheeling in temps close to -40 C. I have installed a few ARB's for other people with no issues. I have a air line repair kit in the truck that I have never had to use.

Route your air lines correctly, run good oil and change it when your supposed to and your not going to have problems. And I wheel at least once a month year round.

My buddies front Toyota Elocker on his 80 seems to have a mind of its own it engages quickly sometimes and other times it doesn't. Could be maintenance but I know I would be annoyed with the blinking light in the dash telling me its not engaged yet when I need it.

And if you got the money to spend on a nice fancy selectable locker for the front you can afford to drop an extra couple hundred for chromoly birfs. Keep your old ones as trail spares and your set. For you 70 guys you can get chromoly birfs and inner shafts from Nitro gear.

on how this is more expensive than a ARB installed in the front?

It isn't, notice how I said drop an extra couple hundred? Meaning chromoly birfs are a cheap upgrade to help keep the front end together. Actually I should have said if your going to lock the front you should chromoly for the extra couple hundred.

And before the argument starts flying about factory trucks not running chromoly so why should everything else. Well it is easy to argue that none of us are no longer wheeling on 31" highway terrains.

Where is the like button oh rats thatz facebook.

One day I will do the birf upgrade to deathstar and red

remember the birf eliminator kits from the old days? they have gone the way of the Dodo.
then came the longfield?
then comes along the Chrome ...

now, does the Chrome have any downsides?

i agree, somewhat, that if you are locking the front you are going to end up with a LOT more stress on the birfs and hubs.
now you could go with upgraded birfs but if that is stronger then where is the weak link?
is it the inner shafts?
is it the hubs?
if the weak link busts then is it in a location that is easily accessible?

what i am trying to say is this, do you REALLY want to make the weak link more of a bitch to change than a greasy old birf? :hhmm:

I would make the weak link the locking hubs. A quick 5 minute change and your back wheeling. Or build for no weak links and keep the truck at a certain tire size to keep it within the limit. But that will all vary dependent on vehicle weight, suspension and type of tire.

Wow not an original Idea but has been done by people before (and will continue to be done) - ONe can also use foot brake and gas pedal at same time and do for all 4 wheels) and what do you propose for the FRONT WHEELS also a handbrake? What about when the handbrake is full of MUD and has worn the shoes completely off which is normal scenario for HANDBRAKEs and MUD? and once all the wheels are off terrafirma (ducks disease short wheels and big arse) what do you propose then the same idea or a WINNCH or a portable CRANE?

and welcome to the forum.

Some guys do this with hydraulics and call them FIDDLE BRAKES
Hi cicak, Thx for your information on fiddle brakes. I did not know about this until then. I therefore had to read about it, which brought me to this video. V8 Trialer With Fiddle Brakes - YouTube Thought you might like it too. There is this other project I’v submitted. Use of decompression valves in the IC engine of hybrid cars to improve its brake force regeneration. | Spark the Rise Indian Projects Its not on offroad. I would still request you to checkout and comment. Thx.

Outside of a Detroit locker the ARB is the strongest locker there is! Ive had them in five rigs. Trouble free and turbo (Diesel) strong. Yes they are expensive. Obviously if your truck has cable/electric dont bother. If youre open ARB's are the way to go. With their new compressor you also get a good tire filler as well.

I have ARB fr and rr and would not swap them for anything else.

Only main issue I have had was with the rr. Oil in the air line. Replaced the neccessary parts and upgraded the air line to heavy duty.

LSD are good when new, after a while they become poor.

Auto lockers no exper, but I would not bother.

Factory lockers...if the 70 had come with them I would not have bothered with ARB.

Cost of buying factory locker and doing some conversion was almost same as new ARB....so I chose new ARB.

As for Warn winch.......(did I read some comment?).......XD9000 has never failed me yet in its 7yr on my 70.
