Dang, those ads are fantastic.

To confirm, yes my engine is a 12HT. I have not posted any pics yet, but I will. I replaced my fuel filter. Gauges are in the mail. I'm going to post a pic later with my prospective locations for tapping for EGT and Boost for your review.

Thanks for the FSM screen shots. I will look through. At first glance I noticed the part about setting max idle to 4100. Is it really okay to rev it that high?

Thanks so much for the help. You guys are great. I will be working through this list over the next week.

The only sticking point is the massive sales Toyota make in soft 4wd's!
Rav's and Highlanders massively outnumber all the other Toyota's I see on the roads now. At least you can get a diesel Rav. No diesel Highlander.

Great ad though.

The air filter looks like it just came out of the box. Not a fleck of dust or dirt. Clean and straight.

Here's some pics of the rig followed by a picture of where I'm considering tapping holes for Boost gauge and for EGT gauge. What do yall think about these locations.

What was the old fuel filter like?

Nice roof rack, is it quiet? Some roar like hell.

Wow she's clean looks like someone nursed her like a baby.
I would take her on a good run to clean out the internals don't be afraid to give her the stick she was made for it. :)

Yep, although I wouldn't do it for minutes on end. According to Toyota a 1HZ can rev to 4700, and, according to my experience, do 4150 for about 2.5 minutes straight (it was either that or say goodbye to the cruiser into a paddock drain)

That's an awful spot for the EGT probe.

It would be a perfect spot for it if it weren't for the fact that the 12HT has an internal baffle right where the two sides come together, right where you noted. You'd never measure the exhaust gas if you drilled and tapped that spot, because you'd be drilling into and through that baffle. Move the probe to one side or the other.

It will work just fine not measuring all 6 cylinders.

As to the boost probe: what kind of probe are you installing? If you have a remote pressure sender, then just T into the boost line that the factory boost lights use--no need to drill and tap if you don't have to.

Yeah ozcruiser, she really is clean. Really nice inside too.

Rosco, the old fuel filter *looked* very clean. I didn't perceive any driving improvement with the new one.

maat, my FJ60 gasser is also not a sports car, but yesterday I drove it up a long hill slowly accelerating from 70 to 90 kph. The 12HT loses speed on the same hill - in any gear.

Niffa, gotcha on the metal filings. Thanks.

Yo DanS, thanks for telling me that. That would have sucked. How does this look...

Boost gauge is remote yes, via a nylon tube that goes thru the firewall to the gauge. So I'll T into the line circled in red....

Anyone know what the thing is blue is? Looks aftermarket to me. Some kind of red canister with Japanese writing on it.

Works well.

Correct.

Looks like a catch can of some flavor to me.

When you drill into the exhaust manifold for the EGT probe here's how I did it on my GM 6.5. I had to guess at how thick the casting was at that point. Then I drilled until I estimated I was about to break through the inside. Then I put grease on the tip of the drill and started the motor. With the combo of grease and exhaust pressure from a running motor all the metal chips came out either on the drill bit, or were blown out with escaping exhaust gasses.
