A few days ago I went to buy Mobil 1 synthetic 10W30 for an oil change in my 3B engine. Have used it for a decade as it was one of the few rated by API for diesel engines. Surprised to find the CF rating had been dropped. So I emailed Mobil oil and here is their reply:
"The API "CF" is obsolete starting in 2011, thus why it is omitted on the
bottle label, it still meets the spec however."
Then I checked the API website and found confirmation.
Here is their bulletin about discontinuation of CF rating.

Seems that the oil companies either had to improve their oils to CH, CI, or CJ ratings or drop the diesel rating altogether. Appears that Mobil 1 dropped their and instead introduced a new specialty diesel which I saw on the shelf at the auto parts store..
Anybody know about API dropping specific ratings? It all sounds like a routine thing they do periodically, but it caught me off guard this time.
