Good Luck Josh and Keep us posted!!

I brought the vehicle back to the dealership yesterday and told them I would keep it if they replace the transmission with an oem reconditioned unit with warranty. I showed them the paperwork from Lexus recommending a transmission replacement. They are going to have their mechanic check it out on Monday. They also extended the cancellation period in writing until Wednesday.

Has anyone else had their transmission fail on an 05 LX or LC? There is not much info about a p2714 code on the 100 series. I wonder if a flush and new solenoid would fix the problem. The transmission seems perfectly fine when driving. It's only when you make an abrupt stop and then get on the gas again that the problem appears.

I also noticed on the car fax that the vehicle was serviced at 39k miles at an independent local mechanic and they flushed the differential and transfer case fluid. Is it possible they used the wrong fluid or amount of fluid and this is causing the problem?

There is also an entry on the Lexus drivers service history page where the prior owner brought the vehicle in at 47k because it was not accelerating when pressing the gas pedal. This sounds like the vehicle went into limp mode but Lexus couldn't recreate the problem and determined the vehicle was normal.

The differential and transfer case don't share fluid with the auto transmission so I can't see how it could be linked, as long as your transfer case and differentials are working as they should and are quiet I wouldn't worry.

Yes, but if they were changing fluids maybe they did the tranny too and it just wasn't listed on the car fax report.

Maybe, I am sure Lexus would of checked the fluid type and level when they had it. Just wait and see what the Toyota dealership says about the problem on Monday. Whatever the cause, they are responsible for the repair..

Besides wasted time, which is valuable of course, I would take the fixed transmission and see if they can give you a bumper to bumper extended warranty and drive that '05 for many years. Either way, you got extremely lucky a transmission problem reared its ugly head on day one.

I saw the same thing on a 2004 GX470 at a dealer here in Maine. It had 51,000 miles and the tranny was gone. It wouldn't shift out of 3rd gear, which isn't the same issue you're having, but still a low mile Lexus with a shot transmission.

Both the GX and LX have the A750F, I believe.

Anyway, they still wanted $15,500 firm. So, keep that LX and get that transmission replaced. You'll never regret it;)

That is exactly what happens when the fluid is low and sloshes around when braking and getting on the gas from a stop. It's during the sloshing the shifting problem occurs. Perhaps they just didn't add enough fluid the last time they were flushing it.

A fluid flush might be all that's needed, but I don't know how long this has been occurring or the permanent damage already done to the transmission as a result.

This is one of the reasons I wanted a 2003 or older LX470 - these have a Transmission dip stick that you can
easily check for proper amount of fluid. 2004 -2007 are sealed Transmissions and you have to get up
under the vehicle and loosen a bolt to check Transmission fluid level.

Update: I just picked it up from the Toyota dealer this morning. They installed a remanufactured transmission and replaced the water pump and timing belt since it hadn't been done yet (12 years old). Everything seems good. However, I noticed that the ECTS power and 2nd start switch is not working, nor is the light illuminating on the dash. Also, the light won't turn on if I press the traction control button. I checked the fuses in the engine compartment and a few in the kick panels.

Any ideas? Is it possible they didn't connect the ECTS switch on the center console when they took it apart to replace the transmission? Or, a fuse that I overlooked?

For the amount you probably just shelled out at the dealer, I would be asking them these questions...

If it's a simple fix, I'd prefer not to take it back to the dealer. Thought I'd check here first to see if anyone has experienced this before taking it back.
