Here is a pic of the deer damage.

I'm kinda worried they might total it.
I called my insurance agent this morning and he said book value is around $5,000. He also said once the adjuster comes and looks at it there is no turning back. In other words if the guy comes and says he's gonna total it, its totaled. :censor:
I went to the local body shop an got an estimate, I told him that I did not want it totaled and that I would be fixing it myself with an aftermarket bumper. He said the adjuster will look up the value and the deduct for milage, rust, tires, etc, etc. He kept the estimate low and still came in at $1,953  , thats with all brand new OEM parts. Hopefully if I explain everything to the adjuster he'll work with me and not total it.
I can't see why he won't work with me and agree to paying less rather than scraping it and paying out more.

I'll keep you posted.

PS
I'm heading north in a couple hours to meet Gary and pick up a new bumper.

Its just a flesh wound!

How are the frame horns, and rad support/tie bar?
Any cracks to the turn signal or headlight?
The shop writing oem inflated it for sure. Not too much aftermarket out there, but lkq(insurance term for used!) should be available.

If the insurance company does total it, you have the option of retaining salvg.
They would work up a retail value, and deduct its salvg value to allow you to keep it.
Might require a salvg title in PA - not sure though.

No lenses cracked and the frame and everythings good.

Yes I could "buy it back" and part it out, or apply for an R title.

I should be fine, I looked it up on Kelly Blue Book.
Excellent: $6,830
Good: $6,255
Fair: $5,555

I wouldn't even worry about insurance on that if you are geting a new bumper already. Looks like all it really did was bend the bumper down and bust the driving light. Unless there is other stuff going on that can't be seen in that picture..

Did you get to keep the deer? BBQ at CMCC?

That truck is far from totaled. I have about $8K in receipts for that rig sitting around somewhere safe - so safe that I can't find them and I don't want my wife to find them because if she does I will be wifeless:(

Hope you dont have Farmers they are terrible. mike

jtaco1,
I thought about not going through my insurance but I pay for Comp so I might as well use it.

kb3gun,
I went back and looked for it but could not find it.

campoj2,
I would be shocked (& highly PO'ed) if they total it.

Michael Hanson,
Nope, I've had Erie since 1985. In all those years I only had to use them 2 or 3 times and none of them were anything major. The last time was about 4 years ago.......that was a deer as well.
Never had a problem with them yet.

shmukster,
I'm thinking it'll cost about $400. :D

Are you kidding? Put on the ARB, throw away the lights, and collect the cash. ( If I were you I wouldn't have turned it in.) The ARB from Gary is a great deal and is the way I would go. A factory bumper would be even less. How can they think about totaling that rig?

Maxafterburn,
I put the ARB on, kept the 1 light for now, AND collected the cash.
I thought abot not turning it in but I pay for comp I might as well use it.

The insurance adjuster came today, its not totaled and I'll be getting a check for more than the amount of the body shop estimate.

The guy was still backing out of the driveway and I was getting the wrenches out of the box. :hillbilly:
Got the ARB on this afternoon and then gave it a bath.

Sounds like it all worked out. Looks great!

TrickyToy,
My bad on the don't report comment. I was looking at it as a car/car accident. I don't know about PA, but here in NY deer/car is a no-fault if you have comp, so it is a non-chargable accident. In that case, turn it in and Take The Money! (which you already did!)

Maxafterburn,
No problem. Its the same here in PA, don't matter if the damage is $500 or $5,000 no rate increase.

For right now the 80 is the family camping/winter cabin truck. The only other thing I wanna do to the 80 is get the lockers working but I really wanna get working on the 60, After riding around Garys "backyard" the other night got me real itchy to hit the trails. :p
I just put airbags in to level the ride when pulling the new camper. Going camping this weekend so I'll be hooking it up tomorrow to see how they work.

I'm hopeing the airbags fix the sag.

My son drove my 80 into our well casing and took out my front bumper and steering cooler. I found an ARB bumper in Albany that needed a little tweak and then went right on. To keep him out of my truck I gave him the 60. We got a roller from Gary a few weeks ago and he's been swapping some parts. Right now it needs a clutch so it's not moving.
