Sometimes, you get lucky.
I've been having some regular fuse burnouts in my 1984 FJ60 with my dome light and had not tracked down the problem. Then today, when I inspected the main wiring harness underneath the driver's dash -- wow! I had not seen this before. Some some heavy corrosion (green chemical build-up) and completely frayed wires that failed. You can see the black and bare wires. When I was inspecting the wires there was a massive spark and a lot of heat. I couldn't get to disconnect my positive battery terminal fast enough. I feel so lucky that this didn't happen when I was out of the house or in the middle of the night. (Yes, I keep a fire extinguisher in truck, but that isn't any good if you aren't there stop the fire.)
More impressive? The fellow Mudders that have already replied to my inquiries seeking a used replacement harness. What a great community.
