Hi all, I want to start doing some basic diagnostics on my LC 100 by myself. I have found that there is hardly anyone to help me here whenever I need some basic diagnostics.

I was thinking of a very basic one for starters, where I can use my laptop (Linux or Windows, but preferably Linux).

Would it be possible to just buy an appropriate data cable and then use it with free software that I can install on my laptop?

I appreciate your guidance.

You buy a cheap miniVCI cable, with included SW (or downloaded). Best is to use an old Windows laptop (Win 7 or XP, but can work on new windows or in a VM on Linux or OSx, just more work). Search on here for TechStream. Lotsa info.

Thank you. Will check it out.

Would anyone know whether miniVCI can be programmed, in which case i could write my own software to connect and read data? The advantage is that i would then customize the software to my needs.

The programming bit is (or ought to be) easy for me as long as it is possible.

Secondly, are there bluetooth alternatives as opposed to hard wire OBD data cable?
