Just curious if any of you out towards Statesville heard about this. DHS raided a home in Statesville in a military style fashion seizing a Land Rover that a couple just purchased for 60K. DHS is saying the LR does not meet the EPA's CO2 regulations, even though the LR is over 25 years old. I just saw the story on CBS here in Charlotte. From the video footage it appears this couple are Land Cruiser fans as well they have an 80 sitting in the driveway.

Sad thing is I cant say I am surprised by this. DHS/NSA are completely out of control. I fell sorry for the couple because they are now out 60K.

I had not heard about that one specifically, but it has been over in chat for a few weeks

Seems all are tied to one importer out of eastern NC and there may be some issues with stolen trucks from the UK and EU ... bad scene overall.

I believe they are either stolen, or newer trucks with altered VINs making them appear to be exempt to the regulations. This is probably being done by someone just looking to con people. None of this however is an excuse for the manner in which the "raid" occurred. My opinions on the current state of affairs are known. Bullets, beans, and band aids gentlemen.

Here's the story:

I see they also have an 80 .... it is in the WBT video clip on the link Johnny posted ...

Our tax dollars hard at work. I understand if the VIN numbers are an issue, it is what it is. The manner in which the government agency chose to handle it is interesting. If they had conducted an investigation worth a damn they would already have known that the people that bought the vehicle were dupes. My faith in our government as a whole is not what it was in the past. I still believe in my country, just not the people that run it.

Its been all over the place for the past 18 months.

Guy in charlotte had 20 seized from his property. And it has escalated since then.

Anyone that bought one before that time I feel extremely bad for. Anyone that has bought one since then, although I still feel bad for, should have checked their seller quite a bit better. Most people who buy these things know what they are and are on 4x4 boards if not the D90 board. This story has been on every 4x4 site on the net aswell as most auto sites. So they must have known to triple check every thing. That said I still feel sorry for them especially the money they have now lost and don't appreciate the government wasting time chasing this down when there are 1000000000 other things more important out there.

Seems that many have serial and vin numbers changed to reflect earlier years when they are in fact not. Most legit importers take an older one and they put new bodies and engines on the older frame and suspension. I'm not exactly sure about the legality of that under import laws though.

One of the importers was Dr. Aaron of GB4x4 out here in Wilmington, he had a bunch seized. The papers did an initial report, but there's been no follow-up that I've seen. Its a bit of bummer. I used to see cool rovers all over town and now there seems to be nothing. I always wondered about the vintage since some of them looked a bit too new...
As I understand it, Rover in particular has been actively pushing for the Feds to crack down illegal Defender imports. Kinda sh***y if you ask me since they don't bring it in anyway
