That one is more than 25 years old so it's legal. They were also legally imported for two years...IIRC 95 and 96??
Because it has a 200tdi engine it is illegal.
Ain't that the truth. The 'boys' are just doing their jobs, it's the policy makers who need to lose theirs.

Naw, he just got a kill that's all. It's just a matter of perspective. He sees only the 'crime' and not the value because it's not his thing. I gotta respect someone in government who still has ambition even if it is misdirected (by my perspective).

Well, while I can't feel too sorry for the importer trying to do something illegal, I can say that...I am overjoyed to hear that our borders are secure, the importation of drugs and other dangerous items have been curtailed, and illegals and terrorists have been stopped in their tracks
With all that in place, I don't see a problem with them destroying an illegally imported vehicle.
There's no wonder why I don't give a s*** about federal furloughs!

Lowenbrau had one of his cruisers crushed after it was seized in Canada a few years ago.
yup, VIN swapping and other things you just should not do.....but for the almighty buck...some folks just don't care
I think the importer of said seized Defenders was also a Chiropractor........
we have a Defender shop here in town, pretty sure the Defenders(130's) they have are not 25 years old.....funny they never mention what year the rig is when they have one for sale....guess I now know why
I would prefer is CBP rounded up everyone that drives a Range Rover(not a Series or Defender) and send them someplace....

Read that one guy said his was an "83" by VIN and the goverment says it's really a ~2000. Also read that they believe the trucks are being seized as evidence against the dude that was allegedly illegally importing.
When your 1983 has a OB2 plug.....something may not be right

I feel for the owners , though. I would hate to be a 2nd or 3rd owner from the time of importation and buy one thinking it's legit...since it's already registered.
I think it's absurd to think that the government will take your tax money on it, and then come back and take it. Never mentioning that they should have never approved it at customs to begin with. I don't think vin switching is some new idea when importing cars...
They should send the importer to prison, let the owners keep the defenders if they're already registered, and make it clear in the RR community it will not be accepted going forward. That place is like here and will blackball any unscrupulous members passing them off.

It was probably stolen. Its not safe? Looks a lot safer that a smart car to me. Why the heck is the guy smashing it with a crain and puncturing tires? Just pick it up and drop it in the crusher. Id fire the crain op for wasting time. Why not donate it to a school auto shop or something? BTW its worth way more than 30 bucks even crushed.
