I'd say leave it where it is and wait it out, or do it yourself. The more "hands" in a project the more likely something will be screwed up or overlooked. my2c No one you pay will be as carefull as you.

yeah I was kinda thinking the same thing...

but he said he has no idea when he be able to get to it...

fawk man this sucks

Destin - This a great thread and keeps us all enthralled - if we don't hear about the bad with the good we praobably wouldn't feel so invested in it. Keep smiling dude when it all comes together you'll be wrapped.

My AUD0.02c - from experience back problems don't get better quickly and working on 40 series isn't usually the prescription doctors give you to improve it. From the suggestions - there is not too much more to do and if it only takes four hours or even a day to put it all back together and still within the budget - give it too them to do - I'd avial them of the trials and ensure they aren't underestimating the time.

Cheers Dobster

yeah I hear ya man :D

If his back is not better by monday, i tow it over to the other cats.
The will not be able to touch it until monday any way.

Thats my plan b :D

Keep the good and the bad, it shows reality for those who plan on restoring a vehicle and shop out parts of it. Even if you do not shop out part of same sort of delays and problems come up all the time. Keep up this great thread the way you have been doing.

Ok, Destin,
see deadline is monday ...
.. sometimes you must draw a line under the past !!
... and go to plan b !

Cheers

I agree with Chris. This is all part of the game, and why soo many of us would rather tool up, and do as much as we could ourselves...at least this is what I did with past/current projects. It might take longer, and I might have to redo something twice, but at least I know where I am at.

I think what bites here is that you are spending good money, at reputable shops, and yet you get frustrated to see parts just sit there for days, sometimes weeks on end. I've seen this happen a lot with smaller shops, the ones where you make a "special rate on down time" type deal.

No matter how you look at it, or what ever type of excuse you try to throw at it to justify it all, it all boils down to very poor business.

Hang in there Destin. It will eventually get done

Having lived in that area of Oregon in the past I feel your pain. Another couple of months and the rains are going to start. Summer time is a great time to run back and forth to the coast with the top off. In July 2002 I pick up a FJ25 from the little town of Beaver over by the coast. My Brother-inlaw showed me a back way. He lived in Beaverton, we went south to the town of Carlton and took a little country road over the coastal range. It was gravel in some spots. I was thinking what a great way to get to the coast in topless FJ40. Do you know the road I'm talking about? Probably a better way to break in a fresh rebuilt engine than taking the Sunset Highway.

oh i know the route nice!

It believe it is called nestucca river road after it starts climbing into the costal range. There are a few water falls, and some gravel stretches, and you can take a form that takes you through Beaver. Wonderful drive :D

Yeah, not many month of summer left, s*** is getting old hehe.
I think all contractors and mechanics take on more work than they can handle and try to juggle it. The nicer you are the more they keep pushing you out and fxxxing ya.

Hopefully I will be driving this badboy soon :D

You can try another angle...tell him you, and maybe a friend, will be at his place first thing Monday morning to work with him to make sure it is a priority to get it done so you can bring your rig home.

Trying to get your chit out of someone else garage can be a real pain

oy i want this thing done :D

I politely shoved my foot in his ass..........Destin, not avoiding but this month and month end is kicking my ass among other thing.

Was it the mechanic at Portland Rebuilders?

We are waiting haha...

haha no, those guys are pretty solid, granted they took longer to rebuild it than they though because they had t find and make parts :)
But everything is new and they did an awesome job :)

you send a motor out to them?

They are good cats :)

Had a text from the mechanic installing the motor ( no one associated with Portland engine rebuilders ), said he felt better and he will see how it goes.
Told him i need a commitment it will be done this week or i need to take it else where, but have yet to here back.

hopefully he is knocking it all out today, there is only like 4-6 hours of work left tops.

keep ya posted
