I don't live in Denver, but...

If you are specifically looking for an 80 with lockers (as shown in one of the auction pics) I would not just rely on the pic of the dial. Instead, I would either have them take a pic of the doorjam sticker with the necessary information (K294 for lockers and K292 for w/o?), or have them look it up and tell it to you w/o you telling him what you are looking for: Make sense?) ;) I think there's been a couple of known cases with just the switch put in its place w/o the rest of the assembly being there. You know, better safe than sorry!

If you don't care about your Cruiser/LX having having lockers, then disregard this post. :)

Good luck!

I've been lurking here for awhile and with the help of many of your endorsements and accolades for the fj80 my wife has seen the light. loquito's ordeal really seems to have sealed the deal. So, my search is officially on and I've found this which looks promising and is just close enough for me to drive it home. Can anyone take a look?

Thanks

I could go on Friday and look at it. That would still give you a day of bidding left. I might be able to Thursday afternoon/evening, but not sure. Let me know if that works and PM me the address and phone number.

mot thanks for the suggestion. Thats one of the reasons I want someone to look at it. :D

Romer - sending you a PM

FWIW, I bought the same flavor a few months ago...the paint and interior on this one look good from the pics. I do see some corrosion under the hood that I don't have on my 96....might be an indication of more. smart move having it looked at.

I did an Autocheck and its a 2 owner car from the east coat. There is probably some rust on the underside. The photos look great and the interior looks good. PM me your e-mail and I'll send you the report.

If it is a east coast truck then you may want to think about busted bolts when doing the suspension, the tie rods and drag link will be problems unless they were maintained. It does look nice on the pics I can see. Where is this truck, I may have time to swing by depending on where it is. Christo and ben are at sema and I am around. I can do a quick look if it is not down toward the tech center. I am up in Louisville, close to boulder. later robbie

robbie, I forwarded the PM with the info. You are far more qualified than I am to look at this. Please let me know if you do. I included my # in the PM.

The dealer's way out east, Evans & Havana area.. check out http://www.coautofinders.com/contact.html so a lot closer to you Romer than some of us northern guys... I've got too much going on this week otherwise I would have liked to check it out.. oh yeah see you tonight.

Thanks guys. Romer is going to try to swing by there this week.

Arya - My wife will be driving it 99% of the time. The jeep will be deligated to trail duty and I'll be commuting in our Corrola and getting LOTS of exercise (I'm a geologist). After (more like during) the Fordyce/Rubicon run this summer one of the rings on the #6 cylinder went bad (stuck or broke) so its been sitting in the garage in pieces till I can get some time to fix it. So my wife decided we needed another vehicle since she expects the Jeep to be broken quite often :D (gotta love her). She said it had to be a Toyota. She's still not sure about the whole Lexus thing but she'll come around to that too if thats what we find a good deal on. The strange thing is, at least on ebay, the Lexuses are generally cheaper than the Toyota's.

My plan is to beat the cherokee into the ground. Hopefully it will last long enough that we're ready for a new family car and the LC/LX will become the trail vehicle.

I can see it now. While you're on a trail, bouncing along in the Jeep, your wife will mention how this isn't that hard and the LX probably could have handled it, and it'd be much nicer to have the comfort of the LX while on the trail...I've seen it happen several times. If that doesn't work then have the Jeep 'break-down' (either a fake breakdown or a real one) and keep mentioning how the LX probably wouldn't have died here and man it'd be nice to be home now, etc.. :D Pretty soon she'll have a "Free - Take Me" sign on the Jeep and tell you to outfit the Cruiser for trail rides and camping, etc...and that my friends is a home run! :D

You'll love the Lexus, and yes they are typically cheaper, which is baffling to me. Make sure you get lockers. The Lexus thing will probably grow on her, my wife liked our LX, so we looked more at other Lexus cars and finally bought her a IS300, which rocks by the way.

I'd be happy to go take a look-see at the LX, but I'm a bit busy this week, and have company coming this weekend to go wheeling.. :D

Good Luck,
Mark Brodis

I was at cherry creek mall to look at some stuff at the Apple store and the truck was close in a manor. Well the body is good, engine has had some recent work. There was some good deposits on the oil filler cap. coolant was not too bad, cloudy, with some deposits on the top of the radiator and some deposits in the overflow tank. The whole under side is rusted from stem to stern, There is almost no paint on the axles, some on the frame. All the hardware is rusted badly. depends on what you want. It started and ran, alittle ruff, but not bad. That is best i could tell from the time I was there. If you want a nice truck with no rust, this is not the one. later robbie

Basalt - Robbie is from Slee Off Road and I would go with what he says. I would be happy to still look at it if you want me to, but I would not get it based on what Robbie says. Sounds just like one I almost bought but was told it was covered with rust so I passed. Everytime you work on it bolts will break!

I'm not totally sure on this though. My LX was one of those rust buckets from out East, rear axle had no paint at all on it, everything was solid rust under there, even bolts on the grill were badly oxidized. While still deciding on it the dealership had it undercoated to hide the rust, once I showed it to them. I figured mine was used to back a boat into salt water, the rearend looked that bad. However, it was the best I could find so I got it, and honestly haven't regretted it at all. I haven't broken any bolts off, granted I haven't taken everything apart, but as much as any normal person would (all suspension parts, starter, grill, radiator, etc), and nothing has broke or even been a problem.

I agree it would be better to find a cleaner one, but for the right price I wouldn't shy to far away from it. For example, if you were deciding between a rusty one with a great interior, and a no-rust one with a more beatup inside, I'd take the rusty one. IMO the rust underneath is more of a visual downer than a functional downer.

Good Luck,
Mark Brodis

Would you consider this a great price?

I hope so look at the high bidder!!

After communicating with the guy and lookng at the price I decided to take a chance and make a low bid. Never did I think $12,000 would win it!! LOL! I'm a little worried since its another east coast rig, but he assured me there was no rust. Guess we'll see what that means.

Thanks for your help and thanks for looking at the LX robbie. This forum is great.

Wow, it happened pretty quick, eh? ;)

Hope it was more than his word on the lockers (obviously you communicated to him and comfortable enough about it), but looks to be a pretty clean rig! :)

You getting it shipped?
Be sure to let us know when you get it on your driveway. ;)

Congrats!

That looks just like mine.

You still should have it checked it out. If you find problems with it you would just be out the $500.
