Very nice bumper, it's on the top of my list...after a house... :P

This past Friday afternoon I took a drive up to Boise to meet Dave and Patrick, the men behind Delta. On Saturday morning after a couple of Americanos from the cool cafe next door to the shop (Push & Pour), Dave gave me the the royal tour of their operation and projects that they have going...great setup they are building. We then got busy installing the rear bumper onto old Sexy Lexy...she now has a really nice rear-end!!!...she also now identifies as Lexy Panterra ;)

The design and engineering that went into this bumper is ridonculous! i found myself opening and closing the swingouts just for the fun of it. The easy to operate design totally eliminates the burden of getting into the back that you would typically experience with traditional swingout designs. For accessories, I picked up one jerry can mount...it is a slick design, won't rust, is light and completely projects your fuel or water from getting 'borrowed'. I also got the rear tire carrier and two internal stash/tool boxes that mount to each swingout. The modularity of the design is great, I will probably be back for more accessories once I figure out what else I need/want.

I knocked up a few videos of how awesome the swingout latching design is after a few runs in Park City yesterday...forgive me for my lackluster editing skills.

Congrats on joining the ultra-exclusive Delta rear bumper ownership club!
I don’t think we’ll be alone for long once it hits the market and everyone starts to see how awesome the thing is :D

Just yesterday I worked with Dave and lined up some accessories myself. Couple of jerry can holders, the cubby boxes and a high-lift mount. Heading to Windrock Off-road Park weekend after next and I’ll post some more pics and re-review the thing. Still couldn’t be happier with it and I know you’ll continue to be impressed too!

Any issues with the tire moving around at speed or anything? Any rattles, etc?

No issues at all. I set my cruise control to 90 and blew down to Salt Lake City on Sunday afternoon. No wiggles, rattles, vibrations of any kind. This thing is STOUT! I have about 600 miles on the bumper since Sunday afternoon..nothing but high praises from me.

One thing that folks may have a hard time envisioning without seeing the bumper in person is how it can be so easy to operate and at the same time be solid as a rock. The answer to that is in the engineering Dave and Patrick have in this bumper...as I said before, 'Game Changer'

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, Lexy Panterra is supercharged...soon to be turbo charged. That combined with the Slinky suspension 90mph is very smooth and comfortable.

That explains a lot. :) I'd love to get my grubby paws on one of those new turbos. If my LX were falling from a plane it wouldn't hit 90!

Being that Delta has not yet released pricing etc I am guessing you got a deal on yours to do a review etc yeah ?

You guess wrong good sir. Both of these guys reached out a looooong time ago and started the discussion and drove the development actually. They are both part of the reason why this bumper exists.

We don’t buy reviews.

Nope, no special pricing. I was just about to pull the trigger on a 4x4Labs rear when I stumbled upon the reveal pics Delta put up from Overland West (I think?). I contacted them immediately basically because I loved the look (perfectly fits my Costa Fabrications front bumper) and it looked like it corrected the biggest issue I had with other swing outs (the support of both the out and inner portions so there isn’t sagging/wear). I assume I got to the head of the line because I was going to Overland East and could show it off for them. Didn’t work out unfortunately because Overland East was a total logistical disaster (I cannot overstate how completely FUBAR the event was, the organizers should be ashamed) but I was happy to drone on about how awesome the thing is because it truly is. I’ve got plenty I probably should be doing instead of hours singing the praises of this bumper but it’s really that good. And my mechanic who has been outfitting land cruisers for decades says it’s the best he’s ever worked with.

A big fat NEGATIVE on that front....no discount for review. I actually paid about a 1/3 of the cost a couple months ago not knowing the final cost or when it would be ready. I just liked the design so much that I didn't really care what it cost or when it would be ready, just knew that I wanted the 1st one. (Technically 2nd since boggiebones got the first). Actually I didn't know the final cost until after it was finished getting installed on my rig this past Saturday afternoon and we went over accessories/options etc.

Ok so reading that both these guys paid an un-specified amount that is still not known or set for a bumper that doesn't have a purchase price and got no kick backs to sings its praise.

You have to appreciate that in this day of the internet that comes across as very weird which is why I asked but at the end of the day good for you being able to attract customers that support your development out of their own pocket and expect nothing in return apart from a full retail invoice and a quality product.

You are absolutely correct good sir! We do not take this type of behavior lightly and appreciate their support. Hopefully the good folks of Mud appreciate their support as well.

I don't think it's weird at all. All products require investment to develop, for every product there is usually going to be a few that are willing to support to make sure it gets to market.

Just like Joey and his Turbo kit, there are a few of us that are already fully invested in that product to ensure it makes it to market.

Pretty par for the course in producing and bringing products to market.

I think it is 100% weird and you usually find that people who supply their rigs, time and effort expect something in return.

I think it is great that there are still people out there who are willing to help out a business and not expect anything in return but a quality product, it says a lot about their belief in the business they are dealing with.

weird our not, I guess that is all individual perspective. I will agree with you on your last statement however. I would only invest in a product I beleive in being developed by a company that I trust and believe in.

Or the person(s) one is dealing with....

You are missing something here and that is: a lot of us know each other personally. Like face-to-face and not in the world of hiding behind keyboards. We know each other's families, we know each other's homes and where they live; we know each other's kids and our kids hang out. We know what beer we drink, etc.

Make sense?

Some of us live in a world where personal relationships are important; cultivating those relationships are important; knowing that other person is doing well with their business is important.

A small community like this has to do that or nothing would ever evolve or survive.

This is NOT Amazon.com.

It’s simple really, I’ve been on MUD for 11 years and nearly 30k posts. I’ve interacted a LOT. I’ve also been in manufacturing for better part of 20 years. As soon as I started Wits’ End almost five years ago, I knew I’d have to rely on my seniority with MUD to build that initial trust. Since then I’ve created more than 300 items. Some of those items take a lot of effort to make happen but more to the point, Mudders WANT to see it happen so they have been super generous with their funds to help move it over the finish line and their patience with how long it takes.

The turbo project is 18months in and would NOT have happened without folks like Morgan to help it financially cross the finish line.

If you are the type that demands immediate gratification for your hard earned dollar I totally understand it, but that’s not how I can run things working my dining room table. No we would NOT be a good fit for each other. Not good or bad, it’s just I know first hand what it takes to bring a finished product to market, you likely don’t.

See there is always someone who has to make it a pissing competition and turn it personal. I have no interest in arguing with some guy / gal I have never met about who has bought the most products to market, then again you have over 20k post on the INTERNET and work on your very own table ... so I probably can't compete with that level of awesomeness.

As for the Original thread about the rear Bumper I think you will find that Delta and his supporters explaining the position in respectful and sensible way has added further credibility to the process and I look forward to seeing his price point and hopefully hanging one on the back of my 80.
