I see a lot of deleted posts in the picture thread, including one of mine.

Maybe because side comments are not ok there? Just want to make sure I have the protocol down.

Thanks

The occasional "hey, nice truck, where's that at?" is fine, but lengthy discussions about what tire size is in that pic isn't. We have plenty of tire threads, no need to muddy up a picture thread. If it's that important to know, just PM the person or search for details on their truck.

So why did you move the 100 series Roundup thread and then it's ok to have 100 series Moab thread?
Very similar type of threads... IMO

Are these just personal decisions made without any other input from Woody or other moderators?

You had to bring that up eh?

I am getting ready to post a 100 series specific event thread. Last year it was posted in both 100 Series Tech and Trails-Events due to lack of traffic in the later. It got much more traffic in the 100 series thread on a day to day basis. Having two threads on the same event cause confusion and I had to keep herding people to Trails. Like the two threads mentioned above, Trails-Events-Expeditions really does not make sense for a series specific type of run. Many 100 series folks rarely venture outside of 100 series Tech, and 40/60/80 etc. series folks really have no reason to look at a 100 series run thread. Just my little opinion.

I don't think that every time a couple of people who own 100s go to Uwharrie for the weekend warants a thread but for large organized events, there is merit to keeping it in the 100 series section. I guess the Mods can choose which to leave and which to move and we just carry on after their decision.

Ultimately the mods do things for a very good reason and it keeps Tech clean, keeps trolls away, and helps keep MUD the best data resource out there for Land Cruiser Info.

The Roundup thread isn't tech, plain and simple. I realize the 100 series folks don't venture far from the 100 section, so threads like that stay in the section for a short time to get some notice, and then get moved to the appropriate section. There's still a link in the 100 section to the thread, so it's not like they've completely disappeared.

I'm often surprised at how many people here have a hard time with what's tech and what isn't, what's appropriate for a thread and what isn't, and how butt hurt they get when something gets moved or deleted. It's not all black and white, but it's not that hard either. Some forums simply posting classifieds out of the classifieds section will get you time off. I don't do this as a full time gig, I do what I can, some things get missed or slip by, but it's never personal. The 100 section is an odd beast in that you have the dentist who just bought on '07 and wants to know what floor mats are best all the way over to folks doing 2 month vehicle dependent expeditions with extreme set-ups. I get that and try to strike a line down the middle for tech and chat in threads.

Or, as others would believe, I make totally random judgement calls based on who I like and what day of the week it is.

My peeve with this forum is the editing permissions... Why the time limit? I went back to a classified to lower the price and no edit capability. Now there are 2 threads with the same items.

Keeps spammers from posting LC related content then going back later and swapping it out with spam. There is a thread about this in the Mud Help Corner.

Thanks for the added explanation TM. You guys are doing a great job, thanks.

^^^ absolutely

Agreed. Either that or silver star holders have full edit/thread deletion privileges.

I posted in the edit thread just now. I have an issue with the silver star. This web site like many gains valuable intellectual property from it's users at very little expense and since MUD is a for profit enterprise, the owner should foster contributors at every opportunity, not offer to help them make MUD better by charging them a membership, regardless of cost.

Conversely, the majority of users gain thousands of dollars worth of free technical knowledge from the shared resources here, so a star is a minor contribution for that information.

^ THIS!

If you guys read why the editing ban has been implemented you would understand that even people with stars and thousands of posts occasionally go FUBAR and cause havoc on the zen of mud. Unfortunately a few people caused this and all of us have to suffer and deal with it. It is what it is. The Silver star was not intended to give you extra powers and privileges. Those are simply a benefit. It was intended for you to offer your thanks to the community and contribute to the ongoing costs of server maintenance, domain registration, mobile app integration and Woody's 40 series fund. It's a small token of our appreciation for the knowledge of what 35" tire is the best for mud and snow conditions.

The Silver Star Is NOT an Membership Fee!
