So i don't go on the freeway very often but when i do as soon as i get over 55 mph well 60 mph cause i have over-sized tires, its gets quite loud and its like a pulsating bass noise. I've tried to search it on here but have found close to nothing. :crybaby:

when i back off on the gas it gets a little louder and if i recall correctorly it gives some vibes off but i'm not sure. It bugs me to the point where i don't want to go over 55 on the freeway. It might be my u-joints on the drive shafts? I also have a loud thump when going from drive to reverse of vise versa which is the worn tranny mount? can it all be because of that? I've checked the ujoints for movement but have got none.. :hmm:
and its not rpm related only speed

Please help! :)

BTW its a fj62

Your driveshaft is flopping around. Worn splines, bent tube, serious number of thrown weights.

Or: the pinion bearing is loose, allowing the driveshaft to flop around.

Or the output of the tcase has come loose...

These are my guesses, based on having similar symptoms a while back...

Mud answers take time.

I have the same issue above 60 mph. I have replaced the following with no resolution:

rims, tires, drive shaft (front and rear), 3rd member (front and rear), all wheel bearings, rebuilt transfercase, rebuilt a440 trans, Rebuilt engine, emergency brake rebuild, knuckles, ujoints, brake drums. All of this done by a professional shop.

I am now content with the fact that this sound must be indicative of FJ 62 landcruisers.

Ditto, on mine, mine is completely stock and i get the same vibe hum just above 55 mph. checked all joints and did a DS balance. w neg res. but its not really a HW vehicle anyway.

I had mine balanced after getting it custom made. Still noise. I agree they are not highway vehicles. I have over 15K dollars spent trying to get rid of that vibration/noise.

Nonsense, I've driven mine on the highway for years. Nothing unpleasant about it. if yours is noisy on the highway, there's something wrong. You just aven't figured it out yet. Have you guys checked your motor and transmission mounts?

when mine did that it was my third. the stake nut broke loose and backed off

in my fj55 with an 86 fj60 motor/carb/components...my exhaust drone is a loud and deep noise under heavy load, heavy pulsating deep pounding drone...if you push in the clutch and stay off the brake when this is happening, what happens to your noise?

The OP has a fj62, so would have to go to neutral... is this symptom anywhere in the auto tranny threads? I'm also wondering if it has something to do with the possibility that the pinion/diff angle is off to the trans....

what's the size of tire and lift if any?
I don't notice any excessive issues on the highway at speed with mine...

You do have a shackle lift.... It does change the angles if only slightly....
Spent alot of time on that onew before having Oceanside driveline lengthen shorten and balance my shafts and wedge a bit more castor.
