So this begins like so many others before me...

I am new to this truck/forum and have spent countless hours scouring the tech advice and tried numerous searches as I attempt to plan out the right course for building the 'Cruiser.

It is easy to define the way the truck will be used 99% of the time and what I want it to be able to accomplish. It is another story altogether to determine the correct recipe as there are as many opinions as there are solutions on this forum.

My question begins at this point: when the steps of the build have been determined and it's time to begin sourcing the components, I feel it needs to be taken into consideration how to obtain these materials and the associated shipping costs. Are there any vendors/shops located closer than Colorado to the Northern Virginia area that are worth it? I'm not against paying shipping for unique or excellent quality parts, but if there are for example TJM distributors close by, I might consider their bumper over a Blueberry to save the shipping over 1800 miles.

Thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

For our platform (100 Series) there is zilch.

With that being said, if you have a commercial address, you can help to cut down on shipping cost.

Additionally, I've had luck in the past working through a retailer, and then having them drop shipped by the actual manufacturer.

Take an overland trek to Mecca (CO/UT) and pick up what you need on your way to the greatest place in the lower 48! That's what I would do if I didn't just move from there, against my will...

NOVA doesn't tell me much about where you are but north Virginia may be my next home. If that's the case I'll give you a heads up if I'm heading that way from CO and maybe I can help. Best I got for now.

As far as I know there is the aforementioned Iron Pig in Stafford, and 4x4 Connection in Fredericksburg. I wouldn't say, nor would they say they are in NOVA, but they're close. There is an ARB dealer in Tyson's, Arlington Motorcars, I called them but once I talked about a 10 year old LC, they were short with me, took my name and number but never called back. I ended up calling Christo at Slee. Coil Springs, shocks and a diff drop were in NOVA three working days after I ordered them. Shipping was $65, and I supported an MUD vendor.

Thanks for all your help.

The fact that the parts for the 100 series aren't flowing out of every Johnny-come-lately parts peddler is both a curse and a blessing: many folks are forced to devise their own solutions and those folks are designing their own solutions. But that's why we are all here and why we own what we do.

Thanks all for confirming what I already suspected, I just wanted to take the chance that I was missing something. There are lots of 100's and 470s on the road here, but none that appear to be doing anything but burning gas and running "P" tires.

I have been trying to come up with an excuse to venture out across the Country and visit the 'Cruiser Holy Land...

We are in the Fort Belvoir/Mount Vernon area.

we who? Iron pig?

NWF is the OP. He's there. Iron Pig is in Stafford, south of there. I'm here, close to there.

Back the NWF's original question: Obviously you're looking for source and shipment options, but are you also looking for a shop or shops to do the build? Not sure how much of the project you are up for doing yourself, and that might be good to know. It may also determine whether you're better of shipping direct vs a local retail transaction.

Most places will drop ship stuff, means if they don't have it in stock instead of shipping to them then charging you for shipping, they'll just have it shipped straight to you. On the bigger stuff of course. Having a commercial address helps too. If I move to northern virginia I will have a commercial address if that helps anyone let me know. Is NOVA so small you guys just refer to it that way? Just curious.

There are lots of people in Northern Virginia. I believe personally that NOVA is a way to describe the region while trying to stay disassociated with the DC spaghetti bowl.

Here is how Father Google has helped to describe it. Northern Virginia comprises several counties and independent cities in the Commonwealth of Virginia, in a widespread region generally radiating southerly and westward from Washington, D.C. With 2.6 million residents (about a third of the state), it is the most populous region of Virginia and the Washington Metropolitan Area.

Now, back on track: I fully intend to complete most of the build myself and am really looking for shipping items and advice sometimes. There are things like setting up a ring and pinion that I want the assurance of someone experienced to accomplish, but I am willing to tackle most tasks. I actually did not consider drop shipping. That could work out. Thanks for that.

I ran an appt in Tysons today when I noticed a big ARB Banner and some Rovers out front. Talked with two nice British Fellers and their shop help, as they were custom installing a freshly powdercoated ARB bumper with lights, compressor, etc on a new Tundra.

Also showed me what they had done to a R&D Concept for several government agencies... The NSA is already watching me so I wont spill the beans, but think "Mad Max"

As for prices, they were "NoVA Retail" in nature.

As for shipping, they do have some deals worked out to go through ARB Direct, or another supplier that drop ships for $15 - however prices are a bit higher than what they can get them for.

Here is a link to their site if you want to check them out. http://www.arlingtonmotorcar.com/Home.htm

This is what I did! For a lot of my big build anyway.

I did have the TJM shipped from slee prior to that trip... Just ship to a commercial address with a dock and it's no biggie.
