Our trip is December 6th through the 8th. The Monks are gracious enough to host us at their barn once again. Thank you Kenny and Lydia!

It's about time to start planning :D We're 1 month away!

What's for dinner? Pig?

Kenny's place is on the east side of river road right about here. He marks the entrance with flags so you know where to turn in. It's not the house that's close to the road, but the two buildings that are set back from the road.

Sorry for not including more of an event description with my initial post. John Vee sums it up very well:

Dave - Fault Johnny for starting a thread without any major info for the newbies! I'll let him solve that and just mention that the Barn is Kenny & Lydia's property about 6 miles from Eldorado Outpost. They're 2 of the nicest people you'll meet and have adopted all of Logan's (of Logan's Run) friends, new friends as they come and his truck. URE is still open that weekend so wheeling will happen. So will camping on the property, campfire, cooking, eating and a Dirty Santa gift exchange for those that want to do it. Family friendly as always. A gen-yoo-wine outhouse. Plenty of space in the barn to hang out of the elements and some sleeping quarters in the rafters. Electricity, an oven, fridge, microwave (?), sink, etc. Good times. There are a few folks that we might only see at this event or the Meet & Greet in February. Some of the Upstate Cruiser people will wander in from SC. You need to plan on it and bring some family, even if just for Saturday.

Our secret (dirty) Santa gift exchange:

For all those that haven't done one or been to our xmas party before.

We basically wrap gifts.... normally $10-$20 or something from your collection.

It can be serious it can be funny.

Nobody knows whats in them or who they are from. Those that participate put their name in a hat and grab a gift when your name is called.

The gifts can be stolen twice though before then end up with their final owner.

Example: Adam picked a gift and its a toyota gift card...... Johnny's name is drawn later and he instead of picking a wrapped gift steals adams gift..... then adam has to pick a new gift or steal from someone else.

After any gift has been stolen a second time it is locked in an stays with that owner.

Past funny gifts have included.... the karmapooptra book, the gift that every girl wants (chosen by Jerry for some reason), a pink poncho, twighlight poster

Serious gifts have been, toyota gift card, toyota trail team swag, cruiser parts, best buy gift cards.

This is totally optional and spouses and guests not in the club can participate also, all you need is to bring a gift.

TO CONFIRM REGISTRATION:
Send a PM to GLTHFJ60, GarnerFJ40 or alk747triodad.

Thank you and we'll see you there!!

In the past we have always done a potluck.

We could start a sign up sheet again

Pig as the main course, then potluck for everything else?

My vote is for straight pot luck and having the cooker there for those that need it. I used it to cook my bacon jalepeno poppers last year, many people bring deer and chilli and such. We've had success cooking oysters on it before, I'm sure someone will sign up with those

Are you going to be there this year? If not, we'll pack up a care package and send it your way :D

I think Meatball should bring us mahi , tuna, wahoo, oysters, and shrimp and we could supply the crackers. ;)

 There you go.

My vote is that the club provides a main course of some sort, and we do pot luck style for all the sides. That's what we did last year (if memory serves) and I think it worked out really well!

If not pig, then how about chickens or a bunch of different cuts of beef?

I've been talking with Kenny about this, and we were against the overall Pot Luck idea, as it never goes as well as everybody thinks it will. Unless we were to do a strict signup list on what everyone's bringing, most people bring sides, and not a protein.

I suggested to Kenny since it is between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we could do a few fried turkeys and use the pig cooker for warming up a few store bought honey baked hams of sort. I'll discuss with the BOD for purchase.

Then, we could do a pot luck as far as traditional holiday type sides: sweet potatoes, casseroles, desserts, etc. I'd love for some oysters and deer to make the list also!

But rather than doing the usual posting, PM Johnny, Kenny, and myself the number of people coming and what you'd like to bring. Keep in mind that Swamp Fox will be there, and other SC guys, so we'll have to make sure everyone's in on it. Also keep in mind of what is at the farm as far as preparation, warming, and cooking.

I like the fried turkey idea since I won't be doing one for Thanksgiving this year. I'll volunteer to bring my fryer so there's another in addition to the one on the cooker. Of course, we can always fry whole chickens, too, and do 1/2 birds on the grill.

Keep in mind that each fryer might use about $70 of oil unless we can come up with enough good used oil that we all might have.

I'll also point out the safety importance of an alcohol-free zone around the fryer and for the chef.

Fried turkeys!! That's an excellent idea :D

I've never had a fried turkey so I like this idea too!

If this is the route we are taking, we have a store across the street that Lydia says she might be able to pick up a large quantity of oil for cheap. I also have a turkey fryer that I have never used, except for a crab boil, that I can bring. Also a couple propane tanks.

I will take inventory of supplies left over from our past ONSC barn parties and let everyone know what we need as far as paper goods and eating utensils.

Thank-you for volunteering to cook, Mr. Vee!

Yeah, I'm due. Happy to do what I can. Fryer or grill is fine with me.

I'll have plenty of November stress to burn off and I love to cook. I'm hating that my new Big Green Egg has been so neglected since I got it last month.

Just might be able to make this one. Fried turkeys are fun. Just looked and Bass Pro shop had the pot and burner for 49 bucks. I already have a dual burner and one pot that is on the small side but works. I agree that oil is the hard part. If we were doing a bunch of turkeys it wouldn't be so bad as the oil will just need topping off inbetween.

Yeah, the key to back to back turkeys with the same pot is making sure the oil temp comes back up before cooking the next one. Staggering them so a turkey is coming off every so often to would be key.

Fried Turkeys sounds fantastic. One other logistical thought - these boiling pots of death juice will have to be quarantined from any rambunctious dogs and chilrens. :D

Lucas! Lucas lucas lucas haha

I had the same thought, lol.

Maybe a little fenced-in area to keep the youngins and dogs out? Something like an outdoor dog kennel? I'm not sure that's even necessary, but it's a thought.

Let me see what meat i have left. John vee you can check here and see if we can use this meat.
