Well my parents keep asking me when am I going to come home and visit since I haven't been home to Ridgecrest since Christmas. I need a little inspiration to go home to my po-dunk home and since Ridgecrest is under an hour from Death Valley I think a run is in order.
So I am starting to do some research and am looking for any advice you guys could offer since I have never lead an expedition type run or ran any of the trails out there. There is a great write-up in the March/April edition of 4wd Toyota Owner Mag where they mention many of the spots I would want to visit. I would like to visit Devils Golf Course -282 ft below sea level the lowest spot in the US, and then most of the other locations are at the Northern end: Scotty's Castle, Ubehebe Crater, & The Race Track where the rocks move across the dry lake bed due to rain water and 70 mph cold winds.
So anyway if any of you are interested here is an online map Link to check out and I am thinking the first or second weekend of November and this would probably need to be a 3 day weekend trip.
I am totally interested in suggestions on trails such as Goler Canyon and others but in order to see most of the sites it will be hard to hit a bunch of trails.

I highly recommend Goler Wash and seeing Mansons hideout, it's a cool canyon that used to be somewhat challenging that now a Subaru can get through. Also, there's a cool waterfall west of Panamint Springs called Darwin Falls. If you're going out to Scotty's Castle and the race track, recommend visiting Badwater too. Not too far south and it's the lowest point in western hemi.

We'll be out there last weekend in October for Fall Haul 2007.

check out the writeups from the Norcal gangs. In between food discussions, they do mention a bit about the roads... :D
The word "washboard" comes to mind...

but they have BTDT

First weekend in November, you'll be competing for company with Surf N Turf.

Come on out dude. Should be fun for the whole family. People are super nice and not rowdy. Many of them have young kids and babies. It's very laid back and we just go toolin' around. There's usually a big bbq on Saturday night that they do and everyone chips in (havent heard anything yet). There aren't any official runs. Heck, Yosh and I just left everyone and checked out some stuff on our own. Your more than welcome to join us.

This is where everyone stays.

I would check with campsite reservations... i heard they're sold out already. If that's the case you'll have to camp in Ballarat or somewhere else. No biggie.

got to make a spot in saline vally

That would be perfect because I plan to take my GF, parents, and two nephews (7 & 10) with me. So I will be rolling packed with 6 deep.

I just might join.

Yeah DVNP is always a good time, lots to do and see.

Dave isn’t the FH the same weekend as the Baja Trip?

What trails are planned for FH? Pleasant Canyon/ South Park Loop is the one I really want to run, if that was on the itinerary I would be tempted. If not I would be intrested in a Nov run around 11/9-11 or maybe even 11/16-18

Yep, but i cant get away long enough to go to Mexico to make it worth it. So we are heading for DV instead.

None. Everyone just plays it by year and groups go out/in as they please.

it's all about the SurfN Turf....don't kid yerself, you need to see 300 cruisers in the sand catching air.

It becomes magnetic north for all things cruiser.

move it to the second week, and yuo'd probly have a lot of the texas and colorado guys join ya.

Hit up Cruiserdrew here on Mud, the king of expeditions to DV with the Norcal group.

Is this an invite only event, or can anyone showup???

OK, so it looks like I might join the Adventure Trio last weekend in Oct or head-up my own deal the second weekend of Nov. I have to e-mail some buddies and see what they are down with.

Hey Mark

We planned on going the second weekend of Nov too just like we did last year!

If its just one vehicle, you are welcome to join us!

Here are our pics from last year:

As you can see, good times! :D

Very Nice Kevin, it looks like you guys hit up all of the spots I wanted to hit up. I like the way you guys did the trip, rural camping in a couple of spots. But so far I did have one buddy in a stock Colorado that wanted to join me and is getting skid plates before the trip. I also will have my parents and two nephews with me so would kids be cool?
We are leaning towards the last weekend in August right now but still have the second weekend in Nov open as an option, still narrowing it down.

Dave, what all are you guys doing on your DV trip? It sounds like you guys are just staying at the resort for a couple of nights. Is everyone on there own for seeing the sites or is it decided by the group once everyone is out there?

Hey Mark

Yes, our trips are different then most, we drive a TON and cover much more terrain as well.

We like to see as much as possible and love to drive.

We covered about 1/2 of DV in 3 days, tons of driving and expoloring!

I dont do resorts and hate camping next to people, not that those things arent cool, just not my cup of tea!

If you are down for a ton of driving and camping as remote as possible, let me know!

Anyone can show up. But campsites were full a few weeks ago.. so you better figure out where to camp if you wanna go.

We don't have any official plans for runs yet. We play it by year, "lets go run this trail, ok" ok" We are pressed for time. Most people spend a half to a full week out there exploring. We have to run out Friday night and return home Sunday. Your not on your own for trail runs , everyone is really nice and will let you tag along with their groups.

Im prefer primitive camping also, but in this case, im taking a few people that dont camp very often and plus we have some girls that like to take showers and wash up. Having a full bar with New castle on tap across from camp isn't so bad either:) Or if you want a nice Filet Mignon, they have that too. It's also cool to post pics of the days run to family and friends from out on the trail once you get back. They have wifi in the camp. It's once a year, i figure i can reward Yosh for all the other times we camp with no emenities. Also a time we can hang with non-hard core people that are friends of ours that dont like to camp the rest of the year.

I dont usually like to wheel in groups either.

Bizarre rule that most people dont know about in DVNP is that you cant travel in groups bigger then 6!

Sounds weird, but we read it in the rulbeook AND had a ranger mention it to us!
